Lake Elmo, MN 55042

Dr. Baillie is the best vet for guinea pigs in the state (he is actually the one teaching the only class they have at the University of M).

He neutered my boy and is treating my new adopted baby (ear infection). He is very well-known here in the vet community and is in the list of free first pet consultations you get when you adopt from the Animal Humane Society. I highly recommend him and his staff.

Minneapolis/St. Paul

Below are some Twin Cities vets that specialize in exotics, and are experienced/knowledgeable with guinea pigs:

South Hyland Pet Hospital, Bloomington MN 952/884-1868
Dr. Vicki Schulz/Dr. Mark Lehnert/Dr. Rachel Samsel. This staff is top-notch and really know cavies. Highly recommended!

Como Park Bird and Animal Hospital, St. Paul MN 651-487-3255
Dr. Wetherill owns the clinic. He is very good. I've heard it is difficult to get an appointment with Dr. Wetherill now, but other vets at this clinic are also treating guinea pigs.

Cedar Pet Clinic, Minneapolis MN 612-721-7431 or Lake Elmo 651-770-3250
Dr. Baillie used to own the original clinic in Minneapolis and do most of the exotic work. I believe he now has other vets on staff that also see guinea pigs.

Camden Pet Hospital, Camden (Minneapolis I think), MN 612-522-4374
Dr. Cynthia Fetzer

Southview Animal Hospital, Inver Grove Heights, MN
651-455-2258
Until October 2001, Dr. John Newman owned this clinic and handled most of the exotics cases. He has since sold the clinic and retired. I have heard the vet that now owns the clinic also sees exotics such as guinea pigs, and some of the other vets on staff do as well.

Elm Creek Animal Hospital, Champlin MN 763-427-5150

Dr. Michelle Kaner - specalizes in "exotics" and birds, lots of cavy dental experience
Dr. Brett Duke, Dr. Rhonda Ganzke are also good with cavies

New Hope Animal Hospital, New Hope MN 763-593-1004
Dr. Lori Pfeifer - exceptional with cavies, lots of cavy dental experience

All three main vets are WONDERFUL with small/exotic animals. This place has a special interest in exotics, I wish I'd found them sooner. Dr. Kevin only had to take one look at AJ (RIP) and listen to the sounds he was making to know that the problem was a UTI. He did a test to be completely sure. He was wonderful with my guinea pig, very gentle and soothing. He kept AJ calm throughout the entire exam. I was very impressed. I didn't even need the list of Dangerous Medications that I'd brought with me...they had a copy on file! =)

Highly recommended!
