Six pigs in need of a home in Watertown, MA
I've walked home from there before, it's not a bad walk.
I would prefer if I get them that they not go to the MSPCA, only because the shelter always has several Guinea Pigs up for adoption at a time and I don't think they would keep the group together.

There is a fairly decent chance that my partner can scoop them up Saturday morning (although I haven't asked him!) but ... then what?
We have "only" two right now, but we're pretty burnt out from 4 piggy deaths in the past 15 months, 2 of them after months of intensive daily hands-on nursing. Last weekend we went away without piggies! for nearly two whole days! It was the first time in ages that we could simply rely on a friend to refill water bottles and throw in veggies rather than bringing along bags of Critical Care, carriers, etc.

Well, it sounded like Ledasmom was serious about taking the bulk of girls, or the pair of boys, if someone can take care of them until July. Is there anyone else who would commit to taking them on a permanent basis?
At the pignic, anything can happen. We've had pigs adopted there before.

Yes, I'll take the four girls - or, if someone else is wild about the girls, I'll take the two boys, but I can't take both - there's been mild rumblings here since a certain other member of the household figured out just what size cage we're talking about, so six piggies are not in the cards for right now.
The problem is that I can't take them until July 1. We're flying out to Nebraska next Friday and coming back late on the 31st, and I don't want to chance a petsitter with new pigs, without knowing about possible health problems and so forth.

John (my partner) is able to dash out there Saturday morning when the store opens. With extremely creative car packing, and if no fights break out, I can probably bring them all the the pignic.
Ledasmom, we can keep the girls until you get back.
The one thing we might have trouble with--quarantining. We are not over-gifted with space in our apartment. However, if they've been living with a family, and isolated at Petno, perhaps this isn't much of an issue?

It sounded like they were in good condition. I wouldn't be surprised if they have mites, since its so common, but beyond that, I'd think they'd be free of anything contagious or life-threatening.
Mmeadow let me know if you need anything.
Do you need any extra grids? I can bring some to the pignic to help out. Or anything else, let me know.

Pignic is this weekend, as long as the weather holds.
Time to start chanting again, people. It looks good so far, but we need Saturday's rain to push through quickly, and not stall out.

Don't know if that will help or not. Hope so. ;-)
This won't be a popular suggestion, but Mmeadow, we have used some of the largest Sterilite bins (30 gallon and up) for at least part of quarantine time (2-3 weeks) before, in a real pinch. As long as they're kept scrupulously clean, they do just fine for a short period of time. The advantage to them for this purpose is one of their usual disadvantages -- poor air circulation. If you get a pig with an incipient URI, it stays confined to that bin.
Not fun for pig or human, but it does help address the isolation/airborne part of quarantine if you just don't have a separate room, while you can do the rest (handwashing, shirt changing etc.) yourself.

A quick report from John and Ruth, who went to Petco today and talked to the assistant manager, but didn't see any of the pigs. There are now "9 or 10" of them--3 or 4 babies born this morning. They won't release any until they are checked by their vet. One of the pigs has ringworm. More of the sows might be pregnant. They won't release the babies until they are three weeks old and weaned.
They had just one other pig out front, a somewhat listless looking boar for sale for $39.99 or so.
