I am new to this board and kinda new to Guinea Pigs. I started working at a Veterinary Clinic a year and half ago and discovered how wonderful GP's are! I wanted some, but since my apartment only allows one pet (and I was already way over my limit with 2 rats and 2 cats) I wouldn't allow myself to get any more pets. Unless of course, they just came into my life.... (long story ahead)

See, I have weird dreams. Mostly about animals, since that's what I see all day long. One night I had a dream that I had 3 guinea pigs. One was Calico colored, another was white, and another was black with white around his eyes. (That's how detailed my dreams are). Anyway, later that day I was at work and a girl came in and started asking about guinea pigs. She said she had found some in a cage at the mailboxes in her apartment complex (It was over 90 degrees that day, too!) and she didn't know what to do with them. She couldn't keep them, as she had a baby and had her hands full with that, not to mention she knew nothing about them! But she brought them to our clinic because she could tell they needed help. They both had obvious "guinea pig mange" - One had NO HAIR on the lower half of his body and the other had patches of hair loss and small red sores on his body. The one with no butt/leg hair also had ulcers on his eyes. I felt so bad for these little guys, and I thought that since I had the dream the night before, and here these guinea pigs are coming into the clinic, it must be MEANT TO BE for me to take them. So I did. (There are pictures at http://netjunk.com/users/thatkat/pets.htm)

I am SO IN LOVE with these little guys. The white one's wounds are all gone and he is FAT. The brown one (who was very underweight) has gained over 100 grams since I got him and his hair is growing back and his eyes are getting better.

I LOVE reading the posts here, and especially looking at everyone's avatars (I think that's what they're called? - the cute little pictures under your user names!). If I had a decent digital camera I would take one with my piggies in it.

Anyway, enough rambling.

Welcome to the board! I'm glad you found a way to get these cuddly little wheekers into your life.

My only suggestion is that your cage is a little small for two males. You can make a bigger bottom using Coroplast, which looks like corrugated cardboard but is made of plastic. I would suggest at least 2 x 4 cubes.

Your pigs are adorable! And I love the photos of your other animals.

Oh... I know the cage is too small. Long story *L* But basically I have a small one bedroom apartment and have to keep the cats away from the rats AND piggies. (they think they are lunch). So the piggies are in my bedroom closet (which is a HUGE walk in closet with tons of space!!!) but with the ratties and my clothes and junk all I have room for right now is their current cage. As soon as I can afford it I want to get a 2 bedroom apt. so the piggies can have a HUGE C&C cage in THEIR OWN BEDROOM! Or I may have to do some redecorating in the closet *L* Either way, the cage they are in now is basically an apartment while their dream house is being built. *L*

Just got done looking at your new babys,
They are just cuite as can be,
Can't belive that someone would just leave them out in that kind of heat.
Glad that you were around to save them
Sounds like you are going to be a great mother to you babys.
Take Care and Good luck

Thanks... they are both doing well, although one has kidney disease. Oh, and about that small cage... I finally built them a C and C cage, and made it cat-proof. The piggies are now in the living room instead of the bedroom closet! My cage isn't as fancy as some of the ones I've seen here though.. just a plain 4X2 with non-matching towels in the bottom. It really looks quite sad compared to some of the fancy ones.
