Aiko is fascinated by human speech, especially mine. Whenever she sits on my chest for cuddles, she presses her mouth on my lips when I speak to her to feel how I do it. That’s the weirdest thing I have ever seen a pig do, lol! And when I say Aikooooo, she often wiggles her mouth to mimic a reply! And here is me trying not to laugh too much, because then she sighs, loooool!

A few weeks ago, I was in doubt that Yiyi was developing ovarian cysts. I thought her nipples were very swollen when she was in heat, and they didn't go back to being flat teabags after. Last time she was in heat, the same. Last week, I heard her whimper all of a sudden, she had bloat. My alarm went off. I palpitated her flanks, and felt an ovarian cyst. No other symptoms at all. Called the vet, arranged a diagnosis and surgery for today.

In 5 days since, she seemed to shed hairs, yet her flanks were not thinned out at all, but I could see that they were not as wildly haired as usual.

The vet is a new local one, 3 minutes from here, a rodent specialist. Lucky pigs, that's a first ever, so close by. She's great!!

So, all went well. She has a 1 inch cut only. She had to drain the biggest ovary cyst, as it was huge. There was also liquid in her tum, it had leaked, so we were right in time to get it out, as this is of course no good. The other side had small cysts.

She's happy to be at home and hungry, still groggy, but that's to be expected.

I hope so too!

Did she have a complete spay then? Or was the surgery only to drain the cysts?

The massive cyst had popped and leaked before surgery, so the vet cleaned that up, drained the rest in the cyst, got it out through what can be compared to keyhole surgery opening, as the wound is very small. The other cyst was small and came out easily.

She'd doing better today. The new vet was not opposed to not use Loxicom, told her it killed 2 of my pigs, the only 2 I had who ever took it, so she's on Carprofen and Cisaral. I have used both on pigs after surgery often with best results.

Yiyi, my sweet and funny cookie shark, you were such a delight to have as a family member. Thanks for passing us your joy for life, it will be in our hearts forever <3

She became gradually worse, and died without too much struggle in my arms yesterday. I was hoping that she would turn for the better on the 3rd day, but didn't.

In 9 years that surgery for piggies finally became available to us, we have been able to save 1 out of 7, barely, and she has been on heart meds ever since. Makes me wonder what the use is in trying, as all 6 died in pain. A coworker of hub has the same issue, they even gave up and have piggies put to sleep instead, as he had a zero outcome rate. Is it our selfish wish to hang on that puts us and them through this????
