Here's to a quick recovery for Princess. I hope things go well.

She's home! One question: She got a shot of Torb for pain this afternoon. The vet's instructions were to start the Metacam (.3ml of 1.5mg/ml for one kilo pig) at 8PM. Is that too soon?

I hope Lisam and Caramel are home safe, too.

Can't help with pain meds, but congrats on Princess's arrival home. I'll let more knowledgable people help with the metacam.

And 7 days confinement before she can return to her cagemates?

Sounds good. I think I did it longer for Snowflake -- gradually gave her more room as she healed. Hope it is an uneventful recovery!

We're home, too.

I've always kept mine in the sick cage for at least a week, except once when a pig was acting depressed, then I used a slightly bigger cage and put the cagemate on one side of a divider.

Caramel had what the vet called a luteal (I think that's the spelling) cyst. Her uterus was also enlarged. The vet did something new, he gave her FLUNIXIN MEGLUMINE (also known as Banamine) for pain. I wish he'd talked to me about it first--he usually gives torb. He says I won't need to give her any more pain relief than that. She doesn't seem as perky as the other pigs I had spayed, so I'm keeping a sharp eye on her.

We heard you the first time, Lynx.

I have the hospital cage next to her cagemates. She seems fairly alert, but not eating much. She had the surgery around 3PM today. This is the first time we have taken the patient home the same day, so I'm used to slightly more perky pigs on the next day.

Oh great, Lynx removes her post, making me look snippy.

Caramel hasn't eaten at all. I'm getting worried, and getting out the critical care.

That is just wrong, Lynx.

Get well soon, Princess!

I believe JudiL has used banamine. You might want to email her.

Banamine is an NSAID, so a narcotic on top of it should be okay, but no other NSAIDs or steroids.

I think she wants to know how it will affect Caramel as compared to other pain relief meds.

I'm feeling better. So is Princess. Princess is eating and drinking now. She's pooping a fair amount, well formed poops.

BoC will be home all day for Princess tomorrow, catering to her every whim.

Good news about Princess. I hope Caramel is doing well, too.

Poops are good. I woke up this morning to give her Metacam and found a mound of at least two dozen well-formed poops. She's also perkier and more active this morning.

She's been eating hay and drinking on her own. She also has started nibbling on the cage bars for her cagemates, especially Snuggles.

She's in a little pet store cage to restrict movement, and we fashioned a hidey out of some brown paper. She has been chewing on her hidey.

Hopefully we can move her into something slightly bigger in a few days. The cage she's in is slightly smaller than a 1x2 C&C.

This is my sick cage. I actually bought it for a guinea pig cage before I "saw the light". I took out the "second level".

Caramel is doing slightly better this morning--she ate the grass and some hay, and had a pile of poops underneath her.

What kind of stitches does Princess have?

I know she has the internal, self-dissolving stitches, and surgical glue on the skin surface.

My sick cage is the same size, but only one story. The cage came with Marilyn when we picked her up from her previous home.

Good to see Caramel doing well. She is progressing just like Princess.
