Sick Pregnant Guinea Pig

Our guinea pig Lizzie is pregnant. She is due any time now but some problems have come up.

She cant seem to stand on her two hind feet.
She doesnt appear to be eating or drinking.
She has not moved all day.
Her eyes are dull.

Help is required urgently so any advice will be very much appreciated. Thankyou

I have no ideas, but I´d take her to the vet immediately. I´d want to rule out pre-eclampsia, which could kill her and her babies.

She needs to be seen ASAP. She sounds septic. It is life threatening for both her and the babies.


Tell your vet it is an EMERGENCY!

Time is is the utmost importance. Please call now. If your vet can not see her immediatly. Call your emergency vet.

It does sound like toxemia. Rushing her to a competent vet for fast intervention is your only option.

VET ASAP. Even then it may not be possible to save her. As far as I know, an injection of Glucose is the treatment for toxemia. She may also need a calcium injection.

This seriously cannot wait.
