I'm so glad Sakura has done well with her op. That cyst is enormous! It will be cute to see her bum hair growing back.

Excellent excellent excellent. Dr. Wright is not afraid of pain medication. (You can tell him if he ever wants to move to Atlanta he'll be most welcome. :-)

You may be able to taper the buprenorphine off before the third to fifth days. Go by her demeanor, but if he gave you enough for five days, he is a very wise vet. If she has trouble with the enrofloxacin (Baytril), get it changed to Bactrim. (I am going on the assumption it is to prevent infection postop, not to address an active current infection. Active current infection is horse of another color.)

She probably weighs about 1200 grams now ... without the cyst!! Bear in mind when considering postop weight loss that a nontrivial amount of those 1328 grams was that cyst. Dr. Wright didn't by any chance weigh it, did he?

Keep us posted but I am betting she will do just fine.

If it was filled with thick stuff, I am guessing this was either keratinous material (I think that's what Josephine called the what I would have guessed was sebum) rather than abscessed material. Sounds like it was a good idea to remove it. I wonder if this is the kind of thing that errupts (if untreated) into those nasty large open wound type things.

She is lookin' good! Let me know if you'd like your photos added to the thread.

Miss Sakura has been having a good day - yay! We are grateful for the support. :)

The combination of Meloxicam and Buprenorphine seems to managing her pain nicely. She had the look of pain in her eyes early this morning when it was time for her next dose. Since then, she has been more lively.

She is eating steadily, and I've seen her actually resting on the "stitches" side of her body this afternoon.

I am keeping track of the incision site with pictures (if anyone is interested).

At the vet's office, before surgery, she weighed 1328 grams.

On my scale, after surgery:
10/14 - 1241 grams
10/15 - 1224 grams

Lynx, please do add any of the pictures to the thread.

Of course we are interested!

Is she eating critical care? I would suspect a slight weight loss is normal after major surgery during the first day or so post-op, but if she will readily take CC is couldn't hurt.

Yes, I went ahead and added them. Hopefully we'll get a confirmation from the vet regarding exactly what this is!

I suspect some of the weight that she lost was due to the size of the cyst. Since she has been eating on her own, I haven't started Critical Care. Her next weigh-in is a bit later tonight.

I hope to get a picture of her from the side soon.

Stitches look perfect. The slight reddening/darkening for a day or so is perfectly normal.

In my experience a combination of a narcotic and an NSAID postop does the job very well most of the time.

Keep us posted. Best to her and to you.
