Pantufinha's Medical Thread

Be warned, even a small B dose will make her feel wonderful (read: very hyper. ;-)
If you can see and you know she's retrieving her cecotropes, then don't worry about the B, at least not yet. You can take her to the vet, who will probably tell you to try to get her to slim down a little. ;-)
I'm not so sure that's a good idea as long as 1) she is still able to retrieve her cecotropes; 2) that's the only time she makes the noise; and 3) she doesn't sound like she's in real pain or having any real difficulty when this happens. I'm a big fan of lots of extra chub just in case they need it.

Since the last time I posted here, I didn't hear that sound again.
Today I had to take Panqueca to the vet, so I took Pantufinha too. The vet examinated her, listened her heart / lungs and said she's fine, the sound is clean, the beats are rhythmic.
I showed him the video of a guinea pig hooting, so he could see the sound I was talking about. He said since she is doing that just a few times, and always when she's in curved, it probably it's postural. I'll observe her.
I really like this vet and I'm happy because I knew he can make electrocardiogram if needed. It's very hard to find a good vet for guinea pigs here - a vet who makes heart exams is rare!
For now, that's it. :)

Pantufinha was loosing weight last days. She was eating, but was not showing her usual interest in food. She went down from 1300g to 1100g in about 2-3 weeks.
I took her to the vet this night. He examinated her, saw her teeth (incisors and molars, using an otoscope), and showed me by camera that the area between the molars and the cheek is a bit dark (maybe food, maybe something in the roots?).
Abdominal ultrassound was made to see if there was something wrong, since she is not eating fine; teeth x-rays too. All seemed normal, just the incisors that was a bit misaligned and big. Her lower incisors were clipped - but this time, I think it was clipped too short. :(
He is a good vet, she took good care of my other girl Panqueca, but I'm SO sad that it happened to my Pantufinha.
I have another appointment with the vet on Thursday to make new x-rays (the ones made today were not good). She also got a shot of dexamethasone, dypirone and vitamin B.
And she is not pooping in the last hours (the last poops I saw was a bit dehidrated) and is resisting a LOT to be handfed. It's like she have no apetite.
I'll not to work tomorrow to take care of her. If you have any thought or idea, please, it will be very appreciated.

Have you tried adding any just plain vegetable baby food (squash, sweet potato and carrot are loved here; I wasn't able to find ones with greens other than broccoli which I avoid since it's gassy) to the hand feeding diet? That along with the B complex vitamins can really help with appetite. I'll meditate or even pray (if it's alright with you, I'm not super religious but sometimes I just do a general prayer - just in case) for her, sorry to hear you're having these problems. Hugs.

Thank you Cinnabuns mom, Lynx and daisymay. I'm SO sad about it.
I'm at home taking care of her, trying to make she eat, as much as I can. She is not cooperative, and it's hard to even give her 1 or 2 syringes of food. How much should I force her to eat at a time?
I'm using a mash made of KM pellets and baby food (the only one I could found without meat is an apple one).
At least I saw her pooping yesterday night and today she showed interest in veggies - but she really can't grab it. My poor girl.

Try cutting veggies up small and popping into her mouth and see if she can eat this way. As to force feeding I would give a couple and then cuddle her and comfort her and then try again. Weigh her and keep watch on the weight and try to get some water into her as well.
Sometimes I get a pumkin and steam some and add this to the Critical care, you may wish to try this or blended veggies. sending you both hugs and healing vibes.
Sometimes when Jessie doesn't want to eat I get Jemma or Jasmine and offer them some Critical care this works and makes Jessie want some.
Will keep you in my prayers, if it wasn't for the prayers don't know where I would be with the roller coaster journey Jessie and us have been on.
You may also want to massage her tummy to help with the pooping.
