GPIG, I was completely serious about my comment in regards to fracking. I was not trying to be dismissive or facetious. I apologize if it came across that way. I know about people putting a match to the water coming from their taps and watching it burn. I've read about the mystery illnesses cropping up in families who live too close to fracking operations. I agree with Lynx, and think the process should be banned. If we mess up our water supply in enough places just to keep our currently unsustainable lifestyle, then we are going to end up losing that lifestyle anyway, and it will mean the end of our world as we know it. With population growth and climate change, future wars are predicted to be fought over the water supply. Poisoning our own just for a bit more natural gas is downright stupid.

Same goes for the tar sands operations in Canada.

Meganmarie, hope you never have to worry about any of this. That law needs to be passed, though.

Now, back to Ginger-pig and the pressing problems posed by her wet little bottom:
...today(with 3 full days on meds), i've only had to wipe her once, in the morning, and it wasn't bad at all. Just a little...dampness.
This is very good news. I would guess the AB is doing its job, and doing it well. Continue with the meds and wet bottom checks and extra cage cleanings, and please keep up posted on how she is doing.

Fracking does seem dangerous, but i have way to much on my mind to worry about it now... I'm not one of those self-absorbed kids who only think that 'their' world is the ONLY world, and i know the other goings-on in the world, and try to keep as up to date as possible. But right now, i'm trying to help my boyfriend make an appointment to get a tumor off of his face(long story, it's our first time with any...'serious' thing that's happened to us, medically) and i'm trying to find a surgeon. Also, my uncle is in the hospital, he has a bowel obstruction, and the doctors want to just slap an colostomy bag on him and go, here, he's fixed! I just started my new semester of college classes yesterday (1/12/15). Ginger's sick, ect, ect, ect....I just cannot worry about things like fracking right now. I need to keep moving and helping my family. (Complaining like everyone else doesn't have problems in their life, sorry.)

Thank you, LS in AK. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping and praying. She does seem like she's doing better, which is more than i hoped for. (Don't think i'm going to have to worry about fracking any time soon where i live...hopefully.) : )

Lynx, there would be a huge, terrible crisis if someone would contaminate that water source. Not knowing much about fracking, we should be careful, and guard our resources carefully, especially something so precious as freshwater. We can't survive without fresh water, and it makes my stomache turn to see how huge that aquifer is.

No, you are spot on. It is called priorities, and your family - both human and animal - come first.

Just starting the semester up here, too, with a sick pig on my hands, so I know where you are at there. Just take it one day, one thing, at a time, says I. And as each issue eases up in its demands and eventually resolves, you'll find strength to tackle the next big thing.

Best wishes.

Thank you for being so understanding, LS in AK. That's why i keep apologizing, because, to me, it's so painfully obvious how anxious i am, when i read back my posts. I also think i needed to write that 'complaint' because i already feel so much better.

Thank you, and i hope you are getting the support that you need in your life right now that i am getting from you. I hope your classes are uncomplicated, your professor's are easy to please, and your piggie is healthy and strong. : ) Thank you for being kindhearted. You don't really think about such things until you are in a onerous place.

No problem. That is what this forum is here for: to serve as a living resource and to lend support when needed.

No need to apologize. You have a full plate right now.

Sounds like the anxiety is not just coming from your piggy's health issues. That may simply be the tipping point for everything else.

Thank you Talishan. Same to you. : )

So it is now...a full six days that she has been on her meds(1/9/15-1/14/15). I have not had to wipe her for 2 days now. yay! : )

She is looking better and better, she has a small amount of hair loss where the pee was dripping out(the part above her vagina).

Image

So...i have questions. They might seem stupid and repetitive, but i want to make sure i'm well versed in this whole UTI thing.

1. What may have caused the UTI? If it is something i can prevent or change, please tell me how.

2. Could she also started to...i don't know how to say this...start to 'have' a stone, and it could've started to cause issues(dripping pee), but i got her on bactrim quick enough? Or would it not have mattered with a stone, and it would've kept growing anyway?(IE: what i'm asking is, this wasn't a stone, right? because the bactrim wouldn't have made it just 'go away'.)

3. Again, i'm being repetitive. I have very bad ADD and i do alot better with lists. It's easier for me. If there's anything that i should know, or didn't ask about, please tell me. I don't want me thinking 'oh, it's just a uti' and then she forms stones. Do stones and UTI's go hand-in-hand?

Mt goodness!! 4 a.m. and I open up to this picture!! Crisp, clear - piggie porn! Ha!! It is a great picture in regards to sexing piggies, though - that "Y" is very . . ."Y" ish! LOL!

Yes...Sorry to throw that in your face, Jacqueline. : ) It is rather large and in your face, isn't it? I should've made the picture smaller, i knew it. I wanted to show off the minor hair loss she has just above her vagina. I'm trying to painfully document everything so i can use it for reference.

EDIT: and i also use Photobucket, and i'm wondering when someones going to come along and see my pictures of my neutered boar's penis and my girls 'down there' parts and think i'm a sicko. How do you explain to someone your taking picture of their privates and posting them online for their 'health' : ) LOL

No, no, no, no. An anatomically relevant photo illustrating a legitimate medical issue does not count as p0rn, not on GL, not in biology textbooks, not on social media, not on the bathroom wall -- unless your brain has a *need* to process it that way.

MM, the pic is actually great, and shows clearly that the skin on your sow is still pretty healthy, despite the recent incontinence. If it were red and sore, then some Desitin would help, but it is not. So, for now, just keep checking her to make sure the area stays dry. I am guessing the fur will grow back pretty quickly.

As to the causes of UTIs... Could be recent stress. Could be she is picking up on *your stress*. Could be a reduction in water consumption for some reason that exists only in her head. Could be the cage needs to be kept squeaky clean. Could be that there was a full moon. We can't tell from here. You'll need to think back a bit to when the symptoms first appeared and see whether there was anything different going on. If there wasn't, then observe from here forward.

And don't worry about stones until there is cause to worry about stones. Do all the reading you can on the topic, but don't fill too much headspace with it. One UTI does not automatically equal stones. I had a sow with chronic UTIs who was incontinent as Ginger-pig was, yet she never had any sludge or pain while peeing and never developed stones. She just needed her litter box disinfected more often. And I had a boar who never had a UTI, who developed chronic cystitis and had multiple rounds of stones and had to be put down a few weeks ago.

Just be sure not to stop the bactrim until Ginger-pig's symptoms have been clear for a week.

Thank you LS in AK. You've been very helpful thus far, as well as everyone else. : )

I'm planning on just to keep giving her the medicine until it's gone, the vet said he gave me 2 weeks worth, but we all know that can vary a few days sometimes.

1. Stones-research, don't freak out, and don't keep thinking that Ginger ABSOLUTELY HAS ONE. check. (oh, brain, and anxiety)

2. What i'm hearing...deff. make sure she is clean(as well as her cage), has ample clean drinking water, make sure she's comfortable, and keep giving her meds. check!

Again, thank you so much, LS in AK...and i'm very sorry about your piggy. Poor little baby. : ( It's sad when horrible things plague the one's we love. May he rest in peace. I'm sorry, LS.
