Ginger, Female Guinea, about 1 year. I was doing a check up on everyone today. I held Ginger over my head a little bit(up and infront of me), and i saw...something i would almost describe as goo. It is up, above her vagina(it starts right at the top and goes up for about a 1/4''. It was the color of pee, but it was...wet and gooey, like it had been there for awhile. What is this? Anybody have any ideas?

unfortunately, no. Without thinking, i saw it on her, and i freaked out. I got a wet soapy washcloth and washed it off. I didn't want it staying on her...i kicked myself in the butt when i was posting...i knew i should've taken a picture...

Does her skin appear okay now? Urine scald does not vanish, but takes time to treat. You can compare with the pics here:

Is she housed alone, or with another pig?

Another possibility is that she's lost the mucus plug that sows have between heat cycles.

She is housed with 2 other girls, and 1 neutered male.

Could any of this be a sign of a UTI? I've studied the Guinealynx "UTI" page, but maybe i missed something?

My money's on the mucus plug, particularly if it was gooey.

This is going to sound stupid---can boars create boar glue if fixed???

I guess the only thing i can do is watch her to see if it happens again to get a picture...

I had to think about that myself. But with humans who get "fixed" they still ejaculate, but without active sperm, right?
