The one they gave me is called Ivermectin Sheep Drench by Durvet 0.08 solution parasiticide and it says it is for 20-100 lb doses. I have an 8 fluid oz bottle.
Can you tell me how I dose my guinea pig with what I have now?
"Ivermectin Sheep Drench may be used in any standard drenching equipment or in any equipment which provides a consistent dose volume. Ivermectin Sheep Drench is administered orally at a dose of 3.0 mL (2.4 mg ivermectin) per 26 lbs body weight or 200 mcg ivermectin per kilogram of body weight.
Coughing may be observed in some animals during and for several minutes following drenching."
A drench is an oral dose. It can also be given as a "pour-on" (topical dose).
If there is 2.4mg/3ml, this is the same as 0.8mg/ml
A solution of 1% is 10mg/ml
A solution of 0.8% is 8mg/ml
So it does seem it is a solution of 0.08% (took me a while to wrap my brain around this).

If that doesn't work, try this one and click on the "Detail Sheet" download near the bottom of the page:
Because this is a weaker solution, you need more and it will make your guinea pig wetter applied topically (recommended).
Dosage (topical) 0.5mg/kg -- (topical, see: Topical Dose Advice)
From the page to calculate the dose, it appears a one kilo pig given a topical dosage of 0.5mg/kg of a solution with 0.8 mg/ml would get 0.625cc on the bare spot behind the ears (split it between the two bare spots).
How much does your guinea pig weigh? All guinea pigs in your care must be treated of the worst off one may get mites from a guinea pig that is carrying them but doesn't look so bad.
0.671 kg I haven't weighed the rest.
I went to the dose calculation page where you put in the dose weight and all the specs-- it ended up saying 0.12 for a dose.
I have a needless syringe just the one you specify on the site and it starts at 0.1 so how much is that on the syringe?
Should I Just give the 0.1?
I'm going to reread what you wrote again and continue to look at your site as well to see if I get a full understanding.
I'm one of those who even when it is correct stand there nervous for an hour before I give the meds. lol. I had a bad experience with meds once I thought I was dying.
I'm going to weigh her again too and all of them
Yes, do read over that page a couple times to understand what a suspension is, what the dosage is, and what a dose is. If you have a friend who has a medical background, perhaps they could check your figures.
The 0.5mg/kg is the dosage when given topically.
I went to Tractor Supply 3x until I got it right---1 % Ivermectin injection which I want to do topically.
I have a 4.5 yr old male
I was wondering is he is too old for Ivermectin or Should I give him less or none at all?
I appreciate all the work you did for me--It's comforting having someone around to help answer things because I am very slow about medicating these guys.
I worry too much. Thankfully your forum is here so I can feel safe about dosing.
I did have a Red Cross medication administration license believe it or not LOL. I haven't worked in that field in 3 yrs so I'm rusty.
I need help if at all possible with dosing my 5 yr old male guinea pig with meloxicam he's in in pain. He has been to the vet but I had only $270 and I followed the vets advice and got what was needed minus the pain meds had to get He got SubQ fluids, baytril, doxycycline, critical care the visit was every dime on the care one card.
I have *Metacam 0.5mg/ml, po* it comes with a by the lb syringe it was for my mom's cat who has passed away.
Bobby is 5 yr old boy who weighs--
He won't eat pellets and since he's been sick barely eats eats only what is necessary--soaked green leaf lettuce, cucumber, green, yellow, orange, pepper, hay.. He will not drink and is peeing pink --diarrhea and small cecotropes?
I brought him to the vet he was diagnosed with URI. I didn't have enough to do an xray and get pain meds. $270 I just need to know how much to give I went to the calculator and I keep getting nothing but a zero im doing something wrong
I also have buprinex strength 0.3 mg it was for my rabbit who passed of stones a year ago dose for her weight at 5 lb was 0.10ml PO Q12 hr I wouldn't ask but he is going to die no doubt he needs pain meds. I will be in and out I gotta go to mom's to give my grandmother her meds
Thank you so much have a great night
- And got the T-shirt
I wouldn't give the buprinex unless the metacam doesn't take care of the pain. It really zonks pigs out.
He MUST eat, or you'll lose him. Guinea pigs have to have food moving through the gut at all times to dilute the stomach acids they continually secrete, and to keep the contents of the intestines from fermenting and causing bloat. See http://www.guinealynx.info/handfeeding.html. Give him 100+ cc. of Critical Care or pellet slurry for every kilogram he weighs, every day, split into 6-8 doses around the clock. Adjust up or down according to his weight, and down if he's eating some on his own.
You can get some infant electrolyte solution, like Pedialyte, and syringe that to him to get some fluids in him. Most pigs love the stuff, but you can add some to some diluted fruit juice if that helps it go down. The generic is just as good as the brand name.
You didn't give very complete information. With the limited information you provided, there may be malocclusion (not eating) and also, with the pink urine, there may be stones.
Read over www.guinealynx.info/malocclusion.html and www.guinealynx.info/stones.html
Sorry my life went haywire for a while it still is, gram with pneumonia and a car accident that totaled my sons car boy was he mad (not my fault at all though thank God) Many more things landlord...stuff like crazy. Bobby is eating full force again but he strangely enough cut carrots out which were his number one fav snack. He also don't drink much water but he is peeing plenty (I soak his lettuce and veggies) it is colored still but not as bad all the time half the time it is somewhat dark to pale pink. He is in good spirits now he still is under the weather I think this is the beginning of the end he is 5 yrs old.
I just want to get pain meds into him
He is so strong but I know he is in a lot of pain.
Thank you for all the info on your site it is so packed full of great stuff we are all very fortunate to have you I mean that God bless you all.
