Hi, my guinea pig has just been admitted to the vet as she was sort of gaggibg and bringing up liquid. The vet thinks it may something respiratory rather than a gut problem or sonething stuck. Just wondering if anybody has any experience of this. She has been on a course of antibiotics for an infection "down there". We had her on probiotics too due to the antibiotics.

Thank you

Guinea pigs can't vomit. That's about all I know. I hope it's not too serious.

They can't vomit but they can have things come back up from their stomach. Vomiting is very deliberate as far as your body is concerned; reflux is a glitch. One of mine has had to have surgery called off because of food and stomach acid in his mouth under anaesthesia. Surgery went fine the second time though and it's not an ongoing issue for him. My vet said he'd heard of it happening before and apparently there are studies, so I could maybe ask him for references if that would help?
