My adolescent cavy has dandruff. She had this ever since she was a pup. Her Father and Mother had the same thing since they were pups too, I know this because I raised the both of them. The owner told me they were both sisters but they in-breeded and they had pups.

Anyways, she doesn't scratch herself and so don't the parents, so it probably isn't mites. So what else can it be, is it genetical cause of in-breeding?

Please help

It looks like this is your first medical thread. Whose medical thread would you like it to be? If it is your adolescent cavy, I'll add her name to the title and this can be her medical thread.

Meanwhile, we need more info like what kind of guinea pig they are (a skinny?).

Most frequently dandruff has to do with a fungal infection. It can be a yeast/fungal infection, like dandruff in humans.

I encourage you to give her a Nizoral shampoo and see if that helps. Keep the shampoo out of eyes and ears and rinse carefully. Dry thoroughly. A gentle hair dryer can work. You would keep your hand in the way of the heat to know if it was getting too hot.
