Eye issue

My Guinea Pig Ella (skinny) somehow injured her eye 2 weeks ago. It was swollen and totally white. I think it was a hay poke as my last batch of hay was very stalky. I took her to the vet and she said her eye would have to come out. She got a second opinion from another vet and he confirmed it. She was put on SMZ/TMP .4 mg once a day and metacam. Her surgery was scheduled for yesterday. I brought her in Thursday night to drop her off and the vet was surprised at how well it was healing. No more swelling and the white was almost gone. He thinks her eye is functional but may be cloudy. He said no surgery and increased her antibiotics to twice a day and added an antibiotic ointment twice a day and she goes for a recheck this coming Thursday. I don’t remember how to add pics or I would post a before and after pic. My point is sometimes it can be beneficial to wait a bit before jumping into surgery unless it is an emergency. She had a week and a half of treatment before her scheduled surgery. I’m glad we had time for it to heal because now she does not need her eye taken out. I’m very happy with the outcome. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Host your picture somewhere like Imgur and then link to it from here between the<img> and </img> tags. I think your picture has to have a .jpg or .jpeg ending.

I used to post them from another host but can’t remember which one. Do you know of others?

I don't use Imgur, but there should be a URL for the picture itself somewhere there. Copy the URL and post it between the <img> and </img> tags here, like <img>www.thisismypictureatimgur.jpg</img>.

Ouch. That looks like it could be painful. Did they give you any pain meds?

Yes she was on Metacam for a while. We just stopped it as her eye has healed so well.

Big improvement! I'm glad it healed enough that no removal was needed. Eyes can be resilient with proper care.

Let me know if you'd like your pics added permanently to your topic for future readers.

Why is the first few photos so big? They weren’t when I posted them I don’t think.

The board software handles photos differently depending on the source. I think if it is an external source, they are automatically sized to fit better. If they are a local source, they keep the size they were saved to. How big they are will also depend on what device you are using to view the photos.

I have actually cropped and resized (smaller) the pictures so they display better and less data is required for a download. The earlier pictures were huge and these are less than half the size.

Lynx where did the original picture of her eye when it first happened? I don’t see it. I see 2 pictures one is huge and can’t see her eye but the other one is normal.

Oh I see it but on my phone it is huge. Sorry about that. I will update after her recheck at the vet on Thursday.
