Target has recently changed the design of some of their grids that people commonly use for C & C cages. The brand name of the grids is Organize-It wire storage and they usually come in a green cardboard box. Please be aware that there are now THREE different styles of grid under this name at Target. The "old" grids were 9 SQUARES ACROSS and safe for guinea pigs. However, there are now grids that are 8 squares across, and a combination box that has grids 8 squares across and also grids that are 5 squares across.

Please do not use anything but the 9 square grids as the ones with 8 grids have larger holes and are DANGEROUS to guinea pigs and have resulted in tragic accidents. You will have to look carefully over the boxes to make sure you have the 9 square grids because they all look the same. The pictures on the box may give you a clue but if you can't tell, open the box and take a look! And please help us spread the word. Thank you! - (written by charybdis)

I've never seen a box with JUST 8x8 grids in my Target. Just FYI.

Additionally Target carries a "frosted" grid which is solid plastic and no good for air ventilation. Also likely a chew risk. These are harder to find. I haven't seen any in a long while.

I saw the frosted grids in my Target this past Sunday. I couldn't find any 9x9 squares, several people had opened the boxes, probably to check. Fortunately I have plenty of old grids for the sides of my cages.

ETA My mom suggested mass emailing Target since so many of us use these grids.

If anybody is in desperate NEED of grids (the old style) and unable to find them, I have a boatload and will only ask for shipping fees.

Here is Momo's comparison pic of the grids. It is clear the new ones are bigger. So sad they are now dangerous.

Target sells the frosted ones online.

They also have these which look like the old style but different company - Whitmore. I count 9 squares across. $19.99 plus shipping. You can only get them online:

They don't come alone. They come in a box with grids with 5x5 openings.
