Hay Holders Unsafe and Alternatives

I would not use them either. You always have to think about the "what ifs". I don't want to risk it.

Charzard03 - I'm really glad you read this before getting those things!
Rkog - it would be much safer to just take them out, period. DaCourt is right, you never know when/if that "one time" is going to come. I know if I were you, I'd rather put hay on the floor then some possible day wish I had. Not that much different from breeding and knowing the possible outcome that has.
LynnK - I'm glad you stopped using the balls as well. Piggies love to play in the paper bags anyhow, and they are easy to toss out and get a new one.
GPiggin - when I get a order in you can select fabrics, I know I'll be heading to the fabric store today to. I can also mix things up, like every other strip blue and yellow or how ever. Best to email about this though.

I thought of another idea, and this shouldn't be to hard for anyone to do. You'll need two things:
White card stock
Scissors
(you can use plain printer paper also but be sure to tear all edges so there will not be any paper cuts.)
Cut roughly a two inch strip off the sheet of card stock, does not matter from which side.
With the large piece make a slit about a inch away from the top in the center and two inches wide, do the same on bottom.
With the two inch strip you cut off, push it through both slits so the sides join together, you can do this an extra time. Now fold the extra so it semi secures it in place. It will loosed a little. Fill with hay and watch piggies play.
This is just a guide, master it how ever you wish :)

Thats a pretty good idea, one thing I do is get a sock and hang it somewhere resonably high (so the pigs can reach the bottom), fill it with hay and then cut the bottom off (push a little hay through) so the hay dangles down for them to eat. I only use this for when they are out in their outside run, but I guess it could work well in a cage aswell :3 Just putting a pile of hay in with the pigs works fine for me though x3

I ordered some and I, I mean my piggies can't wait!
With all of these trouble making boys I have, if there were something they could possibly get hurt on they would do it for sure.

Im kinda bumping this thread, I have bad news.
Someone who's pigs I help care for bought one of these racks for their piggies unaware of the dangers, I came in today to find the hay rack in the cage and one of the young piggies with his leg stuck at the top. I think he had jumped on the top of it to eat the hay at the top and then tryed to jump down and gotten his leg caught. He was rushed to the vets straight away, luckly it was only a pulled muscle and not a dislocation or breakage, he's seems okay and is still eating like a pig and seems okay, I think the vets have prescribed pain meds for him aswell. It scared me so much though im still in complete shock and have been shaking for the last 2 hours. Please dont use these hay racks D:
A different company has released a safety version of the racks, they have a lockable lid so you can put the hay in and close the top and they also have bars along the sides to stop the pigs climbing in the sides. The bars on it are also alot closer together so there is no way a piggie could get in it like the others. They are alot safer. Or buy one of windespirits ones, they look fantastic and are safe :3
Is there any way this thread could become sticky? After seeing what I saw today I want these off the market.
Im going to talk to my local petshops manager about supplying the safety ones instead and I will tell him about whats happened and some previous accidents involving the racks. The lady who owns another petstore near me already knew about the dangers and only supplys the safety ones, thats where I got mine from.
