Corn husks?

It is Fairy's favourite snack. The husks and especially the silks that is. The girls all have it daily during summer, and we eat the cobs;)
We grow some too. It is great being able to pick a few leaves fresh for them. Often the cobs themselves don't ripen (the last few summers haven't been quite sunny and warm enough where we have our veg bed) but we only really want the green leaves etc anyway.

We plant around 15 plants in 3 rows, Charibdis, quite close together really (we don't have a lot of space!). We were also going to try 1 block of just 4 in the flower border to see what happens. Even if we don't get cobs the girls love the green leaves;)
The birds didn't bother them at all - they are more interested in the raspberries! We tried lettuce for the guineas but the snails got to it first!
My friend sets the sweetcorn seeds for us in her greenhouse. We hope to plant them out in a week or two after all threat of frosts has passed.

Ooh, lots of answers! I wish I could buy JUST husks. Unfortunately, we have to buy the corn too! Also, is this cranberry juice okay to dilute and give to guineas?

No. I've never had much luck tracking down nutritional information on corn husks. I finally sent an email to the USDA yesterday to see if they might have that info published somewhere. Will let you know if I find out anything.Does anyone know what the Calcium Phosphorus ratios are on husks and silk? I did a quick look and didn't see it on the charts.

I have a quick question about husks. We usually feed fresh, but what about the dried ones you can buy at the grocery stores? I think I am going to pick some up today and see if the boys like them.
My little one wouldn't eat the dried ones even if I soaked them in water.
I have a friend here who's father was a professional gardner. He used to put just plain sand around his plants that the snails liked to eat. He claimed they didn't like the sharp sand so wouldn't cross it. I'm going to try that instead of the bait.
