Can piggies eat this type of lettuce?

There are several Asians on this board, including some Singaporeans. I grew up in South east Asia and guinea pigs were unheard of when I was growing up. While I'm glad you found this site and able to get the advice you need, I'm quite unhappy to see that pet stores and breeders all hoping to make a quick buck are now expanding into new markets, like Asia.
I fear that the problems so rampant here with unwanted pigs are soon going to a be an issue there as well. I did a quick search of Singapore websites, and already see pigs being offered for sale on Singapore's Craigslist and several other sites.

Hi Waddles, yes, I think that the pet stores here are very disturbing. Many of these small stores treat their animals very poorly and most owners don't even know the sex of their animals! I even went into one store once and happened to see that one of the baby guinea pigs had passed away in the cage. The owner did not even notice. There are large chains as well, and what is even more worrying is that they are just starting to bring in skinny pigs. From what I've read, they have a different set of needs and I'm not sure that the pet store owners will educate buyers with regards to how to care for skinnies, once the "Look its so cute" is over. Sadly I need to keep returning to stores to purchase food and hay because its not as easy ship online.
On my part, I'll do what I can to educate potential owners about pet store practices and discourage purchases.

Hi Jared, I'm from S'pore as well, and really nice to see a fellow gp lover on the forum as well. I've been learning lots - have 2 adopted girls and have been a mum for 5 mths. I do feed them local lettuce, butterhead as well as a bit of local vege like xiao pai chai (leaves only as they dislike the stemns). Try feeding in small quanities and frequently as they take time to try new things.

The grids I bought from Daiso (may need to wait) but no connectors so I used zip ties. The colorplast is from Art Friend (beach road shop as they carry the larger sizes). I had to tape as well as largest size is still a bit short for my C&C cage. Check out guinea pig cages web site, they list the suppliers for grids. The girls were from someone who wanted to rehome them. SPAC sometimes has them but they get adopted quickly. You may need to wait and ask around - I waited about 6mths before I got the girls. Plus side is that I had cage & hay ready and was reading up on GL so was sort of prepared.
Thats really great, as opposed to me, I'm still learning bit by bit. Yup I got the grids from Daiso as well, the Plaza Sing branch. They had lots of stock there. I'll definitely go check out Art Friend as well. Mine is like 6 or 7 small pieces taped together. Two big pieces would be a vast improvement. I just have to be able to load it into my car first. Haha but thanks for the info! If you hear of anyone who wants to give away boys for adoption, let me know? Unless you intend to adopt them yourself of course, no worries.
Tonight I fed them spinach as I'd run out of their lettuce. I've been noticing that when I put in a large plate of veg, the larger one (Piggy) eats more than the little one (Half half) But if I give them their veggies separately, Half Half will not eat them (if Piggy isn't around) I try my best to ensure that they both get around the same amount by putting some food in front of Half half but I was wondering if anyone had any idea for a more permanent solution.
Thanks!
Thanks!
