I recently adopted a 4.5 month old boar and paired him with a senior (6 years). I know babies should have alfalfa pellets, will it be bad for the senior pig to eat them? My understanding is that pigs are no longer babies at 6 months, so in theory I'd only need the alfalfa for a month and a half or so. Since the baby likely didn't get ideal nutrition prior to being adopted, should I feed him alfalfa pellets past the 6 month mark? He was surrendered to the Humane Society as part of an unplanned pregnancy when two pigs were mis-sexed. My older boar has been on Oxbow's Cavy Cuisine since I adopted him years ago. Thanks!

You don't NEED alfalfa pellets at all. What you need is extra calcium. You can get that by feeding him the same pellets you feed your older pig, and just take him out for a sprig or two of parsley. You can discontinue the parsley when he's six months old.

I hope parsley stems have as much calcium as the leafy part, Riker only wants the stems!
