We are currently looking for Oaten or meadow hay and put an ad on Gumtree and a lady replied with phylaris grass. I am hesitant in using it as I am unsure about it and have never used this before!

The meadow hay we did get from another Gumtree user was full of seeds and 4 out of our 6 piggies got hay seeds in the eye, in fact Jan got 3 in her same eye 3 seeds on the same day and one in her ear and her sister Joy got two on the same day.

Oaten hay is very hard to get and expensive at present. We do NOT have bales of Timothy hay just Oxbow nags which cost $37.50 here. Any answers to this question would be much appreciated. Still no PC but do pop into library every week day!

Thanking any replies in advance! See you tomorrow! Will be in the afternoon!

Is that phalaris grass? That's not advisable at all:

Where are you located, if I may ask?

She's in Australia. She didn't list the area she is in, in her profile.

Hence why I asked, maybe there are members here who could help locate better hay.

I live in South Australia in the Adelaide hills. I have bought Oaten hay for the girls. Thanks for the replies pigjes and Lynx!
