The following information is provided for those looking to give guinea pigs a loving home and to promote adoption from rehoming/rescue centres throughout the UK instead of buying from pet shops or breeders.

It is worth remembering before taking on an animal that the RSPCA and Scottish SPCA are opposed to the keeping of animals by those who do not have the time, facilities, financial means or level of interest necessary to ensure a satisfactory standard of care for their animal.

The following list gives the contact details on individual centres and links to their websites to make your search a little easier.

These centres are all up-to-date and most have many guinea pigs looking for a loving, long-term home. Other guinea pig rescue/adoption organisations can be included if they wish.

Vet information and recommendations were also provided and included in the separate thread on UK veterinary information.

Although this sanctuary mainly takes in horses and ponies, they do take in dogs and won't turn away any animal, they may help you get in touch with people who may have guinea pigs for rehoming.

Since Thistle Cavies is now sadly closed, I thought it would be good to add the only other Scottish rescue I've had experience with. It's not dedicated to guinea pigs and rehomes rabbits and hamsters. This is the place I got Smee from, and also where Squee and Smee boarded when I was on holiday.

Do you think they'd like to be listed on the rescue pages?

https://www.guinealynx.info/rescue_organizations_uk.html

I am guessing this page is out of date and lots of links/contacts are dead. Don't know if anyone in the UK would like to check out the links and make other suggestions but that would be great.

Hi, I'm in UK so don't mind having a look at the link and suggest new rescues to add, if that's ok? It might take a couple of days though.

I was given this link by my local rescue when trying to locate a rescue for someone down south https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid= ... d8eb&msa=0

It's a map of Piggy Bank UK approved rescues. Very handy when looking further afield.

I've also asked my local rescue if they'd like to be listed. I thought it polite to ask first.

Ideally the rescues would write me themselves with updates and/or requests to be listed. You could perhaps point them to that page after you check out what links are still working?
