Here's a discussion of the differences between bovine and guinea pig milks.

Milky is doing a little better, after we spent most of today feeding him. His mom Baby is acting a perkier since we got her on metacam instead of the strong stuff, but still isn't eating much, so we're CC-ing her too. We'll ask the vet about the antibiotic and anorexia.

But it's the most poignant thing to see: Milky is burrowing under Baby and she is raising herself up into the nursing position, but he doesn't know what to do. We've tried jamming his teeny mouth onto her nipple but no go. I hope at least the cuddling is giving some comfort.

Thanks to all for their hopeful thoughts. We'll be mostly off-line for a week -- going on vacation with both ailing pigs -- will update when back.

Try keying "Zoologic 25/13" in, with a "1:1 (~30% solids)" powder/water ratio. Compare the calculator's results to our Norms page, 3.9% fat, 8.1% protein, and 3.0% lactose.
