She has very dry, cracked skin on both front paws. I put some aspen bedding down in the cage because I thought it would be easier for her to walk on then Carefresh. I think this may have contributed to the problem she is having. The vet said she is more susceptible due to her age and especially if the skin is cracked.

The chlorhexidine is quite drying. Consider dilute betadine instead. You can use preparation H on the foot to moisturize (it will also relieve a bit of the pain).

Ugh...her foot is not as swollen asd it was except one toe is very very swollen. Will it eventually open up so I can drain the pus out?
My poor baby. She makes it this far (7 yrs and 5mths) but has all these health issues to deal with. Somehow it seems to be harder on me then her.

I'd try to open it.
No, actually, I'm too cowardly. I'd make a vet appointment to get it opened up. Then, unfortunately, you know the drill -- flush, AB's, etc.
KY jelly works very well also as a moisturizer. It really helped one of our seniors' feet and abdominal area. Just make sure to get plain original 'flavor'. There are several newer ones available that have other ingredients added you wouldn't want for a small animal.

How would you try to open it if you could? I keep soaking and then applying antibiotic cream to it. If there's no improvement at the end of the week (7 days on Bactrim) then I'll bring her in. She is just so thin and fragile. I can't stand the thought of her having to go through any invasive medical procedure.
