You did the right things. Taking a guinea pig to a vet that doesn't know anything about them is worse, IMO, than taking measures you are reasonably confident of yourself, at home. She likely would have needed a C-section anyway, and, I'm sorry to say, neither would have survived it ... two days earlier, two hours earlier.
Godspeed and safe passage to both of you. We will remember you and always love you.
May someone, somehow, mark Alice's story as yet another indictment of indiscriminate breeding we may show the clueless? If Alice can save even one other life, she will not have died in vain.
Please take good care of yourself. She was well-loved and knew it. Poor, poor thing.

Sleep well, Alice and Babe. There's nothing but peace on the other side.
I agree with Talishan and also hope Alice's story can be a wake up call that might save other lives.

I spent the night trying to justify rearranging cages. I dont know why washing Alice's fleece and towels was so upsetting but I really felt bad about doing it. I didn't want to look at her empty cage and bed though, so Emmett Jasper now live in Alice's 2x3. CJ is back in the big cage again now and seems to be happier. CJ and Fred missed each other and now CJ can be in charge without fights breaking out.
Last night, I got an email from a person who "had an abby boy and really wanted cute abby babies". It was too much- I sent off the most nasty blistering reply about what happens when people want babies. So, yeah, I'd be happy to have Alice's story be used in any way to help.
