I am looking for a site that gives a list of the foods that cavy's will eat and their favorites! I have found list that give 4 or 5 of each or lists of ratio with calcium, asorbic acid...I just want 2 list one for fruit and one for veggies...I know they can have more then 4 or 5 items! Why can't I find such a simple list? Can anyone help me out with this? PLEASE and THANK YOU

There's this one:

Guinea Pig Cages Sample Menus

And this one:

Guinea Pig Cages Nutrition chart

and this one:

https://www.guinealynx.info/charts.html

And you can do a search of the forums or visit the main Care and Medical Guide inthe top right hand corner of this page.

Sometimes a lot of information is a good thing. If it's broken down into only four veggies then your pig isn't getting enough variety. The menus are a good place to start.

You want this:

www.guinealynx.info/.html

It is pretty simple. I would expand the "romaine" listing to include all sorts of greens. Focus on greens vs. fruit.

Thanks Lynx. That was actually the link I was looking for. Don't know why I missed it the first time.

But the other links are good too.

I didn't know about sweet potato leaves. What about regular russet potato leaves? We planted some potatoes a couple of months ago and the leaves are really coming up! Are they OK for piggies to eat?

I'm not sure about the leaves but I'm almost postive that potatoes are dangerous to them.

The potato leaves are poison for humans Athena so I sure wouldn't feed to my piggy. They are as bad as tomato leaves.

Eeek! Thanks, Bugs Mom. I didn't know that! We will just enjoy looking at the plants.

Now I want to plant some sweet potatoes.

Sweet potato leaves are just fine - and really nourishing! They are eaten in other countries.

Oh yes, sweet potatoes and the leaves are great. They are not also a true potato but rather a different thing all together.

I felt pretty dopey going to the garden center and asking for sweet potato seeds and being nicely told just to stick the real thing in water, like a potato.

But now we have roots and itty-bitty leaves sprouting out from the one I cut in half and have in water. I'm so excited! I think the pigs will be able to eat some leaves in........4 months...
