As for the butt-dragging, my sows have all done it on occasion. Especially when I've put down the clean towels/fleece. I think they are 'stating their claim'. :·)

Hi everyone :) Just thought I'd show you another pic of Wanitas progress. WHAT A CUTIE! She's now 650g I'm so impressed with her improvement (original fungal weight was 525g) her hair still continues to grow around her face. Note the heavy crystal food bowls, nothings too good for Wanita ;)

I can even get her to do the circle trick for a treat, (my partner thinks this demeans her.) I love it, it makes me laugh every time.

No I didn't use program but was considering it in the later stages, then she seemed to improve with her heath so I didn't want to overdose her with medication.

I started with ivermectin but credit neem oil, fungal cream, olive/coconut oil and daktrain oral gel (for babies). The daktrain oral gel was administered orally for any internal fungal spores she may have in her system especially as Wanita's fungal condition was advanced. I did give her one dosage of Revolution at the end of treatment, but didn't follow up on the next recommended dosage

Not all conservative veterinary treatment, but hey it worked for me

I did have constant guidance from Thistle Cavies

Fingers crossed it doesn't come back, it's winter is Australia so I figure it's gonna be less of a problem.

I would maybe like to detail Wanita's treatment at some stage if this is ok with GL? Lynx?

Good info; thanks. I asked because a GP rescue near me is dealing with a severe fungal case (originally thought to be mites), and I recommended Program if no improvement w/ micronidazole. I might also contact her and also mention neem oil and coconut oil. I've had good luck with both on skin issues.

A detailed description of Wanita's treatment would fit well in the GLX files as a case history. It'll be nice to have a reference.

Yes, feel free to do so. The more detail with dates (or "two weeks later" "the next day" -- some kind of time reference) and detail on what you tried, would be great.

Sometimes one does not really know exactly the most effective medicine (this may be the situatioin with your case - but it can still help).

Hi all

I noticed some dandruff on Wanita's eye and ear area.

I'm assuming the fungal has flared up again ;(

I know that she was well advanced with the fungal condition to begin so I shouldn't be surprised that it's come back for another visit

I've started her on fungal cream again and just gave her a olive oil soak to relieve the dryness from all the cream I've used over the last 10 days

On the bright side I know I'm alot more educated with her condition so better the devil you know, but geez it's a royal pain in the backside!

She is totally free range she sleeps in the lounge room under the couch and has a separate dining/hangout area in the sun room, she roams from room to room stopping on the way to hang out in corners and under tables etc.

It is nearly impossible to sanitize every inch of these rooms, and it would break my heart to confine her to one area but I feel that she may pick up fugal spores from a bit of carpet or stray fungal hair left lying around the house

Ok now to the main question, can anyone help me with a detailed description or picture/s of "scurfing"? I'm having difficulty distinguishing knowing what is scurfing (the skin healing itself from treatment) and what is actual fungal "flakes" (still hanging around) as they both appear to be similar in appearance.

The other thing is she's appears to be malting alot of hair when I rub her with cream/oil alot of strands fall out, not the original hair loss in clumps, but still I'm concerned. Is it normal for guinea pigs to shed or malt a bit of hair on different occasions or is this another thing for me to worry about

Sometimes fungus can be difficult to completely get rid of. Not rereading but I take it you treated for mites with ivermectin or Revolution as a precautionary measure?
