The awful smell sure sounds like bacteria gone wild. Are you going to have a fecal done? I remember using some of your advice on the diarrhea page so I figure you know more than I do.

I went to the local vet today. They can't do a culture in-house but they prescribed Flagyl. They also looked at his teeth to see if that had caused his weight loss.

I am wondering what I should do to try and get more weight on him or keep him from losing more. Should I offer him a small amount of pellets, and no veggies? And see how badly that affects his poops?

Tell Jackie to stop it...now! He's supposed to be our healthy as a horse boy. He's always been a bit smelly in his trunk hasn't he? I would try the pellets and see wht happens. At least you can rule them out if things improve.

Well, definitely try one thing at a time. I'd pick the thing which caused the least amount of GI disruption in the past.

I'd withdraw all veggies, but put in a dish of critical care to make up for it :-) Occasionally I have to do this, and the pigs don't seem to mind much as long as they get a dish of CC.

Just read through the thread. Sorry I can't give any advice, but I wish you and Jackie well.

Retardo Pig had more mushy poop today. It also smells very bad, but very different. The texture is also different than before.

So I was freaking out about that, and then I discovered that either Jackie or Suzi had been chewing on the (towel-covered) icepack in their cage. Luckily I discovered that the pack was filled with a gel made of carboxymethylcellulose and ordinary water. It's a thickener used in food and health products...and in laxatives! I'm sure Jackie ate some of it and totally shouldn't have.

Poor Jackie. He can't catch a break. After all, you put it in his cage so it must be ok, right??? : )

Jackie just wanted some of that poop to come out faster!

Oh, poor Jackie. I hope he feels better, and things return to "normal" soon.

His poopies are looking and smelling better today! He had about five of them in his butt, of course.

Whenever my husband complains about any of our males, I shall refer him to this thread. ;-)

We've put those ice packs in their cages, also towel-covered. I shall further consider myself warned.

Best to Jackie, and you.
