Diluting Baytril usually works pretty good, and it can also be combined with certain other medications (I've had to smash it together so many times with other meds to create a suspension at the animal hospital and then shake it all up for people... if only we had a homogenizing machine it would be so much easier than all that shaking LOL).

Thank you all for your suggestions. I think I will stick with my original plan to just drink myself unconscious and hope that these pigs are all gone when I wake up in the morning.

What I said has nothing to do with the weight of the pills; I was wondering if it all would actually dissolve into water.

If a pill says it is a 22.7 mg Baytril pill, then there is 22.7 mg of Baytril in the pill, but the pill (if you could weigh such a tiny thing at home) would weigh more because of the filler. The 22.7 mg is absolute, this is the dosage of Baytril. Your/our calculations are just fine, there is absolutely no need to adjust the calculations. If you want to be correct in your dosing, you fill to 0.9 mL, but that would be very difficult in the home. Another idea is to dissolve the pills into as little volume of water as you can (say 0.5 mL), suck that slurry up into the syringe, then fill the rest of the syringe (to the 0.9 mL) with water. Squirt it out again, mix it up, and there you go. If you have 10 mL syringes, it would be much easier, just take all the numbers times 10. Larger quantities are easier to deal with. Or maybe you need to order some flasks...

Of course, if you want to refigure for the 22.7mg/mL as Mel suggests, that is an entirely different (and voluntary) proposition. 1/4 pill per piggie sounds so much simpler...

If the above post is incoherant, I would like to point out that I have been at work all night, after having been up since 7:45 am to see my daughter off to school. I may have said things that have already been said...

Chary, if there's any way you can get me all their weights, I'd be glad to.

Yes, I meant hemostat. I was much too tired last night to have any business being on the computer. I didn't WANT to say roach clip, but yeah, that is what it looks like.

Chary, if this seems too much, do this. Cut each pill into quarters. If you can't shove it in the pigs mouth, then grind that quarter up and mix with water, the smaller the amount the better. You KNOW the pig needs the whole quarter, so mix it up and syringe it in. Do you have a mortar and pestle? I could not do it without those.

And you are most welcome.

Better yet, Chary, do you weigh the pigs in pounds/ounces or grams? Do you have Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Works on your computer?

It' easy for me to throw 8 pills in a cup and dissolve them in the proper amount of water. Thanks, guys. I will need to get more Baytril from the vet tomorrow anyway.

Have you heard anything re: the test results, Charybdis? How are the piggies with the lumps doing now?

I don't understand why people are scared of giving pills to their pigs. I never even bother with a hemostat. I take my index and push the piece of pill in the back of their mouth. It takes about 2 seconds, seriously. I don't understand what the fuss is all about.

No fuss, for me it is so simple with the hemostat. I do it in about 2 seconds, also, but I have a great chance of them not spitting it back out. Sometimes with the tiny quarter of a pill, I can't feel it well enough to finger it. the hemostat grabs it tight and makes it so easy.

Goddammit.

I just found out that my vet did not send Rowan's lumps out for culture. He simply opened him up, took a look at them, and then sent him off for cremation. Apparently he misunderstood what we were trying to do.

That's who whole reason why we had Rowan euthanized in the first place--so that we could find out what was in his f*cking lumps. Dammit, dammit, dammit. Why? Why? Why would he do such a stupid thing????

Now we have NO WAY of knowing what Sebastian is carrying, NO WAY of knowing what the other dumpster pigs and Itchy and Scratchy have been exposed to. It could be anything.

I am about to start screaming. 1.....2......3.........
