Bye "Big George"
In memory of "Big George". Rescued July 3, 2003 - crossed Rainbow Bridge November 7, 2003.
When I first got George, he had been abandoned in a small metal cage outside some mailboxes in an apartment complex. He was very skinny and had no hair on his tummy, back legs, or butt. He limped on his left back leg (old fracture), had an ulcer on his right foot, and ulcers in his eyes. He also suffered from impaction. After loads of love and care, he had gained 120 grams, grew his hair back, walked well on his back legs, and his eye ulcers had made an 80% improvement. But earlier this month, his old age, kidney disease, and arthritis began to take over his frail body. Meds weren't helping, and he continued to go downhill.
Now George is no longer in pain... he is rolling in the grass, eating fruits and veggies, and has an endless supply of applesauce :-) But I will miss his wheeking at all hours of the night for that applesauce. No matter who walked by, even the cats, he would scream for his applesauce. He charmed my parents and grandparents, who weren't too keen on the idea of a rodent visiting their homes. He would look at them and scream his head off, begging for treats. I hate that I will never again hear his wheeks. I wish I had them on tape :-(
