OK, Norbie has lost more weight! I cannot understand it. This morning, I cleaned the big cage and put the 3 of them back together.

I waited to weigh Norbie because she has been eating non-stop for the last hour. So, I was thinking, she was going to be UP in weight but she is now down to 842g. How is that possible?

Documentation of Weight:
934 the morning OF Surgery..10-24-2011
874g 9:00Am, 10-25-2011
862g 6:30am , 10-26-2011
856g 6:00pm, 10-26-2011
852g 8:30AM, 10-27-2011
858g, 9:58pm, 10-27-2011

842g 10:00AM, 10-28-2011

Should I worry or is this normal?

How does she look to you? Happy? Comfortable?

Eating is very good. Was she leaving a little pile for you as she was eating non-stop?

Sakura's weight has been up and down, too. I was expecting this to happen, and watched for the trend. When her weight would consistently decrease, without the upward bump, then I gave her Critical Care.

She has been eating non-stop for the last hour. Pellets, Hay and then water. She's has "reminded" both Willow and Bella that SHE is in charge!.

Its pretty funny because Willow is 1585g and Norbie is 842 and she can push Willow around. Bella runs from the both of them.

I think she is ok. She just seems so small. She hasn't been this small since those first few months we had her.

But, she is eating and drinking and pooping and peeing. Maybe now that the girls are all together, Norbie will remember she needs to eat when I feed them or Willow (the fatty) will eat her share. :-)

She is running around. She certainly is acting like she is ok. Her incision looks perfect. I just want her to gain weight!

It is great to hear that she is so happy to be with her friends again!

It is great. It probably was a mistake to separate them. At the time, I didn't want the other girls to do something to accicently hurt her but she seems so much more lively in the big cage with the others.

Live and learn, I guess. If there ever is a next time, I will know better.

Huge ditto to Tracis. I don't worry about weight bobbles. I'd worry only if it trends downward continually and consistently.

Also -- I don't think you made a mistake separating her for a while. If she'd gotten too active too quickly; if one of the others had decided to remove her stitches for her; if anything had happened where you'd had to have her incision repaired and then it got infected or *whatever*, then you'd be kicking yourself the other way.

I just don't understand why she is down so much.

She is down another 10g this evening. So, she has now lost 100g since MONDAY.

I know that part of that weight was the cyst. But she seems to be eating hay, pellets, veggies, and water. I watched her eat almost constantly for an hour so why is she still losing. I would be happy with just stabilizing.

It would be one thing if she was just laying there and not eating. But, she is moving around from the pellet bowls to the hayrak to the cozies and she is eating.

I have never had a piggie who has had surgery so I don't know what to expect and when the weight will stabilize. (sorry if I am harping on it, I am just worried)

Do you have some Critical Care to supplement her with? If in doubt, do so.

I suspect she's burning up more energy being back with her friends, and her body needs that energy to continue to heal. Give her some supplemental Critical Care; it will probably make you both feel better.

She's up 22g this morning. Back to 854g. If she is that or more this evening I will feel like she is on her way to gaining more weight!
