Getting to know Bean (and his cage)
In the time I just had Bean, I really got to know him and his personality. He is a friendly, spunky lil boy who likes to stand up on the bars and wheek for veggies. He is a small boy (831 g yesterday) but what he lacks in size, he makes up in sweetness. Whenever I spot clean, he goes on a popcorning rampage. One of the most adorable things about Bean are his good manners. Whenever I give him veggies, a treat, or I put him back in the cage after lap time, he makes a short "coo." He does it every time without fail. I think it is his own way of saying "thank you!" He is adorable, his funky peruvian hair goes everywhere no matter how many times I brush him. I love my Beanie!

During the time bean was a lone pig, he lived in a 2x5 c and c cage with fleece. He had a small "kitchen area" and a few other levels. He loved to hide in the fleece forest. I can't find any pics of Bean's first c and c, but I swear I took some.

Bean had the perfect life, except he had no piggy companionship. I felt really bad, so after I had recovered from Cookie's passing, I headed once more to the piggy rescue. This time I took my Bean with me. I told everybody I was taking him so he could pick his own friend, but really, It was for my own security, as I certainly did not want a repeat of last time.

Meet Midnight
When I arrived at the rescue, they set us up for a piggy date. Bean dated many piggies, but the piggy he loved most was a black boy with a white nose stripe. Meet Midnight!

Midnight is a big boy, but he is shy. He is so sweet and quiet. He chews on everything. He gets along so well with Bean. Right now, they are begging for treats!

Sorry for bad quality, iPhone pic.

Bean is such a handsome boar; glad Bean has a friend. You seem to have become a great piggy parent.

Social networking is going to make me a hoarder
So after I had had Bean and Midnight for a few months, I saw a post on Facebook from my local guinea pig rescue telling everyone that they had just had a huge hoarder dump and they desperately needed fosters and adopters. I thought about fostering, but I really wanted another piggy, because "three couldn't be much different that two, right?"

Meet Milo!
The next weekend, I drove up to the piggie rescue, and picked out an adorable baby brown and white American piggy. I wanted a baby because I wanted him to get along with Bean and Midnight. Meet Milo!
Image
Milo is a fearless, bossy, active, and dominant little boy. I love him!

Three isn't always a magic number
My three boys happily lived together in the 2x5 (eek too small) for several months, but then Milo hit his teenage years. He started mounting the other two and rumblestrutting at them a lot. Midnight was terrified of him. I found a few bites on Midnight. I decided it was best to seperate him and do re-introductions once this teenage stage had passed. Milo got his own 2x3, and the other boys had the 2x5.

A three-piggy divorce
A few months later, I tried re-introductions of my boys. I did a buddy bath, and put them in a cleaned cage. There was fighting immediately. I once again separated Milo into the 2x3. But Milo needed companionship. He spent his days chewing the bars to get to the other boys, no matter how interesting I made his cage. I covered the walls in cardboard, he chewed through it. Milo actually likes Bean, but since he hates Midnight, they can't live together. I was so sad to see Milo so sad. I knew I had to get him a new friend, and a new c and c where he couldn't see Midnight.

Farewell, matress, piggies come first
I had to find a room where I could put a 2x5 that wasn't Bean and Midnight's room. I searched my house, but the only place that was free was the bottom of a bunkbed. So that's where I put it. I actually made a 2 1/2 by 4 which is the equivalent of a 2x5.

Now Milo just needed a buddy!

(sorry there are not many pics the next post will have a lot, my photobucket is being odd)

Cuy friends
So I took Milo to the piggie rescue so he could pick out his own friend. As I walked though the rows and rows of c and c cages, one piggy caught my eye. A huge piggy! Milo had a date with him, and it was love at first sight.

Meet Charlie the Cuy!

Weighing in at 4.5 lbs, Charlie is a huge boy. He is really shy, but once he is in your lap, he is a huge cuddle bug. I love him!
Charlie gets on really well with Milo. They live together in their 2x5, and they love to popcorn!

What a cute photo of Charlie and Milo. Even my mum and daughter pair don't even snuggle so closely together. It's great when pigs pick out their own friend.
