Are the above medicines safe for my piggies?


Not paying heed to the vet's advice, I have purchased Ivermectin Oral Solution 0.08% W/V.
Composition:
Each ml contains
Ivermectin IP : 0.8 mg
Benzyl Alcohol IP (as preservative) : 0.02 ml

Can I use this solution topically?
How much should I give?
Should the cleaning and the disinfecting start before or after the first dosage?

I am giving Ivermectin to my piggies first time, so I am a little scared. Request you to please help.

Nutrolin is OK, it is a probiotic and vitamins B, used with antibiotic therapy.
Albendazole and Ivermectin are both antiparasitics, so they shouldn't be used at the same time. They are both used for treating specific problems of guinea pigs, and are considered safe - as long as they are used in proper doses and for correct health problems. Usually a competent veterinarian makes the diagnosis and administers the correct doses of medications. I have never needed to do it myself, so I can't help you there. maybe someone else can tell you more.

I weighed the piggies and also changed the oral ivermectin with the injectable ivermectin since it is better. Its a 10ml bottle and its composition is:
Each ml contains
Ivermectin IP : 10mg
Benzyl Alcohol IP (as preservative) : 15mg
Propylene glycol IP : q.s.

Cupid's weight- 975 grams (0.975 kg)
Sandy's weight- 950 grams (0.95 kg)
Prince's weight- 850 grams (0.85 kg)

Request you to please help with the dosage of ivermectin to my piggies since this would be the first time that I will be using it and I dont want to overdose them.

I plan to give them the first dose tonite and wash their bedding in hot water with bleach and detergent from tomorrow. Also sanitise the cage with vinegar and water.
Is there anything more I have to do for mites treatment?

Lynx, as per the chart Cupid and Sandy will be dosed somewhere between 0.045 and 0.05, say 0.046 cc approximately and Prince will be dozed between 0.04 and 0.045, say 0.041 cc approximately (correct me if I am wrong as I am very bad at maths).

I am also confused with the concentration of ivermectin in the composition I mentioned and how to work around that. I had seen a chart somewhere here which calculates the dosage taking into account the concentration of ivermectin and the weight of the guinea pig automatically and manually but I cant find it now.

How do I take this dosage on a 1 cc syringe?

That is the 1% solution.

So you can use the guidelines on that page.

I would not concern yourself too closely on getting it correct to such a small decimal point. You will find when it comes time to measure, you can't do it that accurately. Just do the best you can using a 1cc syringe.

As per my calculations, Cupid should receive 0.049 cc ivermectin (0.5 mg/kg × 0.975 kg = 0.4875 mg Ivermectin. Then 0.4875 mg ÷ 10 mg/cc = 0.049 cc)
Sandy - 0.048 cc ivermectin
Prince - 0.042 cc ivermectin

1. Can someone please double check my calculations for ivermectin dose?
I really require your reassurance that I am going in the right direction.


I read that when mites die, they tend to give a hard time to the piggies and make them itch more.
2. Can I bandage them for the first week with gauze inside so that they dont scratch and make open sores and hurt themselves? I am talking something like dis:

3. If the boys seem to be in pain, can I give them a painkiller Rimadyl instead of Diazepam as mentioned on the mites link? I already have Riamdyl at home.

4. What ointment should I apply to their open sores? Can I apply Neosporin?

My boar Sandy has been making weird mouth movements since afternoon as if trying to remove something stuck in his mouth, along with some chattering of teeth which sounds different than the normal chattering and drooling a little. He completely stopped eating in the evening but is eating a little now. I am doubting it has something to do with his molars. I have been reading about malocclusion and will take notes for my vet. I have an appointment in the morning. I have never had a piggy with dental problems before and so it will be a first time for Sandy and me both.

I wanted to be prepared with everything before the situation arises because it is difficult to immediately get guinea pigs supplies in India.
My concerns/doubts-
1. The vet has asked not to feed anything to Sandy three hours before the appointment incase she might have to file the molars. Is it necessary? (This vet again is not an exotic vet but found her better than others)
I thought guinea pigs could be fed 24 hours and doesn't need to be starved before the surgery?

2. How long will it take for Sandy to come out of anesthesia?

3. I plan to buy Baytril and the only enrofloxacin available in the medical store is Enrocin. Is this Baytril?

4. Can I mix critical care with Electral. Pedialyte is not available here.
