When I had pigs I saw these two vets exclusively, as they seem to be the only ones with any "exotics" knowledge in the area. Dr. Baeyens has a very no nonsense type of manner while Dr. Hawley is more personable, but Dr. Baeyens has more experience. I've brought pigs in for minor respiratory infections, bladder infections/stones/sludge, and multiple surgeries. I've also discussed the pelletless diet of my stone prone pig, and was impressed with both vets' nutritional knowledge. Somewhat off topic, Dr. Baeyens has also treated a turtle, and treated and spayed rabbits of mine in the past. That was before Dr. Hawley joined the practice, and I would have no problem taking other species to see her now as well.
My only complaint is that the clinic as a whole has a strict policy of no clients in the back. I understand the need for the policy, but it means you can't stay with your pigs during euthanasia since the equipment for the gas is in the back. I would still prefer that they give the gas before the injection though, and have never had any reason to doubt that my animals are treated well and with respect even when they're out of my view.

First, someone recommended Kutztown Animal Hospital, DON"T. They are horrible, Our first pig, she treated him like she would a dog, completely messed up his neutering and when we brought him back the next day saying he was not eating, moving, etc, she looked at him then brushed us off saying he'll be fine. He had a seizure before we left the parking lot so we went back inside and she brushed us off yet again. He died later that day. As first time piggy owners we unfortunately did not know any better at the time, now we do.
I highly recommend Animal Medical Center in Trappe, PA. Specifically Dr. Brian Novak as our primary doctor with Dr. Karen Crocker as our backup when he is unavailable. Dr. Novak has performed over 100 guinea pig spays and neuters and has never lost a pig either during surgery or post op recovery (the next 3 weeks). It was like night and day between the horrble neuter performed at Kutztown versus the awesome one at Trappe.
(By the way, 8 years later, we now have 14 very spoiled piggies)

Dr. Gray is a very caring vet. I have been taking my guinea pigs to her for almost 3 years now and she has always treated them well without any complications. I always recommend her to people here in Greece and every piggie owner that went to her clinic is absolutely satisfied with the results and her experience. She is not only a great vet but she is a great woman. She loves to pet all the piggies and she is always wealing to hear what you have to say or thinking. Most Greek people that lives in Athens have Dr.Gray as a vet so i have to write it here. I didnt find any Greek vet in the recommendation list so i think it will be helpful

I hope it's OK to add this - I didn't see her on the vet list document.
Calgary, ALBERTA
Dr. Eva Hadzima
412 Pine Creek Rd, DeWinton, AB
(just south of Calgary on hwy 2A
Dr. Eva covers all exotics in this practice (DeWinton Pet Hospital), and she seems to do them all really well! She prides herself on educating her pet parents to make sure that you really are doing the best for your critters. I first saw them for a well-gecko visit, but when my smallest cavy developed conjunctivitis (and I called immediately because of you guys) they squeezed me in despite being full. "We don't like to wait, especially when it's the eye." Great staff in general.

Even though I went with an obvious bite on the rump, she took her time to check everything. Back bone, hips, teeth, she felt his tummy to see if she needed to x-ray. She even checked to see if he had other bites. She even looked to see if he had lice and mites. She even checked his boy bits. He even got a snuggle from her!

I am already an experienced practicing vet., however my patients tend to weigh in at 4 or 5 tonnes or more; I am a large animal specialist and I work with marine mammals... mostly whales.
I do though, live in Nunavut... that is the Canadian arctic... and there is a definite absence of any medical knowledge here when it comes to cavies.
Therefore I have just gone back to Guelph University to upgrade my specs. to include small rodent care (sorry but that is the title of the thesis I have to write in order to qualify).
As soon as I get that specialty tagged on to my others, I will send in all my information regarding how to get in touch with me and just how far I am willing to travel (I have do my own plane... a necessity for a large animal vet) to come and check on your sick little babies... I have gone thousands of km to check harpoon wounds in Blue Whales and I think our smaller friends deserve the same respect that I show those whales....

NOTE: earlier in this string, Dr. Connie Orcutt was recommended. She, along with Dr. Jen Graham, were once the super team at Angell Memorial, Boston. In the later 2000's, Dr. Graham had moved on to Tufts (Grafton) and Dr. Orcutt had moved on to Putnam (Topsfield). Very unfortunately (for us), Dr. Orcutt has since retired from veterinary medicine and is now a medical writer.
