I don't think Trump is a bit honest. But Cruz is a smart, sneaky, mean idealogue who knows how the systems works and where at least some of the bodies in Congress are buried. I think Trump would get far more pushback from Congress, and therefore be less effective at peddling his malarkey than Cruz.
Cruz, by the way, has already said that he'll govern by the Bible instead of the Constitution. I'm not putting down the Bible, but it was certainly never intended to be the governing document for a nation. And which parts will he govern by? Stoning adulterers? An eye for an eye? Loving your neighbor? Oh, wait. Definitely not that last one.

I think the point of people like Jeb Bush throwing their support to Cruz is to keep Trump's delegate count down just enough to have a brokered convention.
Explained :
"Could a Contested Convention Happen This Year for Republicans?
It’s possible, but still unlikely. A Republican candidate needs to win 1,237 of the 2,472 total delegates in order to become the presumptive nominee. The Republican National Committee will hold its nominating convention in Cleveland, Ohio, from July 18-21.
Isn’t It Also Called a Brokered Convention?
Sometimes a contested convention is called a “brokered convention,” under the presumption that powerbrokers will negotiate backroom deals in order to determine the ultimate nominee. The terms are essentially interchangeable, but “contested convention” is more precise because the situation may resolve itself more organically.
What Are the Rules Going to Be?
Convention delegates will vote over and over again until one candidate hits the magic number of 1,237 delegates. Most state parties have their own rules for their own delegates about how many times they are required to vote for the candidate to which they are bound. But by the third ballot, nearly all delegates will be free to vote however they choose. Other national rules will be set by a panel of 112 party officials – two from each state and territory – who will have the power to change the rules just days before the convention, potentially making or breaking the presidential aspirations of candidates who fell short. "

If someone can condense this into a simpler explanation, have at it. Bottom line, the person chosen as the presidential nominee wouldn't even have to be a candidate.

I think Cruz is scarier because he is smarter than Trump. There is no such thing as an honest politician, so you can't really say you won't vote for a candidate because they lied. And you can't believe any promises they make. You have to figure out what they stand for, if they don't lie about that. But, if they are majorly anti-human rights of any kind, that's a big red flag for me. So that's why I won't vote for Trump or Cruz. But, the Republicans keep acting like they're going to put up someone else. That would make things interesting.

I agree with the consensus here - Cruz is smarter and therefore scarier. bpatters' comment on "love thy neighbor" made me laugh. Definitely not that part!!
I am coming around to favoring Trump as the GOP candidate because I think enough people can see through him. I am worried that a brokered convention will end up nominating Cruz or someone else who is just as scary, but more polished and thus harder to see through.
On the positive side - they will have a lot of angry Trump supporters if they do that. Will those voters go to the new candidate or will they be too angry? I only hope that Trump then runs as a third party candidate.

In a brokered convention the delegates are not restricted to the candidates. They could pull any reasonable Republican out of the hat, like Romney, for example. I don't think they'd go with Cruz. He is widely disliked among Republican congressmen & I don't think the the Republican power brokers would be keen on him. And that's who will make the decision.

Somehow I didn't realize until this year what a cluster*&%$ this delegate business is. Democrats and Republicans do it by different rules, some states have winner-take-all and some allocate by popular vote, some have superdelegates and some not. What a mess!
Edited to add: Here's an article on the allocation: http://www.cfr.org/elections/us-presidential-nominating-process/p37522

I thought the superdelegate fiasco was bad enough, but take a look at this: http://usuncut.com/politics/alaska-superdelegate/
And this: http://usuncut.com/news/the-dnc-superdelegates-just-screwed- ... s-of-voters/
And this doesn't have to do with superdelegates, but with the Arizona voter registration fraud: http://usuncut.com/politics/arizona-election-fraud-primary/

He needs yuuuuuuge wins to actually possibly win! But his presence will, I hope, help battle the out-of-state dark money and right wing radio propaganda propping up Rebecca Bradley, Walker's appointed State Supreme Court justice, who is objectively underqualified for the position and is a virulently racist, anti-choice, right-wing tool.
