Fur falling out in large quantities. Help!
Hi,
My 5 1/2 y/o Summer had a tumor removed and a complete hysterectomy Dec. 19th. Recently we noticed her fur is falling out a lot. When you pet her you end up with a bunch of fur in your hand.
When I had surgery last year. Afterwords, a few months out my hair started falling out in large clumps. I was told the human hair cycle reflects a few months prior and that my hair loss was my body's reaction to the anaesthesia.
Could this be happening in Summer? What could be the causes for a g.p. fur falling out?
She does not look bald but there is fur loss.
Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have never heard of hair loss being the result of anesthesia. I think of diseases like Cushings disease causing hair to thin but don't know that it falls out in clumps. It could be related to the spay/hysterectomy which happened not too long ago. Is it falling out in a pattern, the sides of the body?

We initially noticed little larger bald spots behind both ears two weeks ago, then this seemed to stop.
Now she is like majorly shedding in her fur loss. Every part of her body fur is just clumping off. No real bald spots yet.
I just noticed tonight scab type wounds on both her back under paw areas which I put some ointment on. I don't know if these two things are related or not.
We are still using a towel as her cage liner, so nothing sharp in the cage. She does move her x-large plastic iglo several times a day across her cage to be up over her food dish in the corner. I will move it back across her cage and she moves it right back. That physical exertion might cause scabs on her paws...maybe?
Thank you for the links. I will try vit. c supplementation. Is their a brand or type of supplement you recommend?
Her fur is growing back on her surgical site and she is eating and acting quite well... However, this amount of fur loss is not normal I think.

You might aim for 50 mg a day for a couple weeks and then 25 mg a day for longer to see if it makes a difference. Scabs on skin can be the result of scratching and mites, which could flare up if she is unwell. www.guinealynx.info/.html

Summer's first medical thread is here:
Tumor felt in uterus of 5 1/2 yr. old piggie
It's important to keep all questions and updates for each guinea pig on one thread in the medical forum; this way, her entire medical history will be available to anyone trying to help.

Ok I obviously did not know this. Did not want to make things too lengthy and thought since it was not related to her surgery it needed to be separated. Any way to combine the threads?
Summers Medical Summary:
Summer is 5 1/2. This past December 19th (2016) we had a very large tumor removed from her uterus and a complete hysterectomy.
Dr. Palomar found her uterus to be stuck to her bladder but was able to carefully remove it. She recovered very well from her surgery. She did however, pull out her stitches on two separate occasions. She also had orange urine for almost 2 weeks after her surgery but that too cleared up. The vet thought that might be some old surgical blood discharge.
Summer has been energetic with a good appetite. She has been on her fortified pellets w/a variety of veggies, greens, timothy hay and a little fruit. We have kept her bedding as towels which are changed daily.
Skip ahead 2 1/2 weeks to current issue:
Summer now has extreme shedding type of fur loss and bilateral scabs on the underside of her rear paws. I have started putting antibacterial ointment on her paws 2x/day as well as changing her bedding now 2x/day.
We made a vet appointment for Monday. Any suggestions on questions to ask?
