Totally worth a read:
Welcome to dystopia – George Orwell experts on Donald Trump

Jean Seaton quotes Orwell, "Science, in the old sense, had almost ceased to exist. In Newspeak there is no word for science.”
Tim Crook suggests reading Orwell's "Politics and the English Language".

Other books to read on the subject:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jan/26/1984-dystopias-reflect-trumps-us-orwell
I would add "The Plot Against America" by Phillip Roth
"It Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis (I haven't red this one).
"Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury.

There was a bitter take-down of the NYTimes on Kos today. Short. Sharp comments. Ignoring what they knew about Trump/Russia to focus on Hillary's emails.

Piggypie, I finished The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood yesterday. Parts of it are scary!

- And got the T-shirt
I need to re-read that.
Women protested in the Texas Senate dressed as women from The Handmaid's Tale. Texas has some awful bills that the Senate will undoubtedly pass, but there's some hope the the House has better sense. One would allow a doctor who determined that a fetus had a defect to not inform the mother if the doctor suspected that the mother might choose abortion. It would also prevent the doctor from being sued if the child was born with a disability.

I'm adding a link to one of the series of articles about trump and his lying ways. I have to go back and read it later (do not have time right now). Near the top you will see links to the consecutive articles they are running on this. The link below is not the first one.

Lynx, that article you linked to is part of a series about the administration. All of the articles are well worth a read.

Hannah Arendt
“In an ever-changing, incomprehensible world the masses had reached the point where they would, at the same time, believe everything and nothing, think that everything was possible and that nothing was true. ... Mass propaganda discovered that its audience was ready at all times to believe the worst, no matter how absurd, and did not particularly object to being deceived because it held every statement to be a lie anyhow. The totalitarian mass leaders based their propaganda on the correct psychological assumption that, under such conditions, one could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of their falsehood, they would take refuge in cynicism; instead of deserting the leaders who had lied to them, they would protest that they had known all along that the statement was a lie and would admire the leaders for their superior tactical cleverness.”
― Hannah Arendt, The Origins of Totalitarianism c. 1951
Also wrote "Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report in the Banality of Evil" as in Nazi leader Adolf Eichmann
