Hey everyone I took my guinea pig to the vet yesterday and they gave me eye drops antibiotics gonna give and go back in 7 days if it gets worst I'll go sooner she didn't sound very optimistic on the eye being able to be saved and was saying id have to take him to a specialist to have it removed if doesn't show improvement ugh anyways I wanted to post a pic and see what everyone thought

There's a green tint to it because of the dye vet put in she did say she saw a small scratch/cut but doesn't think the issue is that thanks to anyone experienced with this

It looks like a hay poke to me, but it could be something else.

Can he blink? If so, and if there's no infection in the eye, it might not have to be removed. You'll just have to treat with the antibiotics and see if it clears up.

If he can't blink, call the vet back and ask for some ointment to keep the eye lubricated. Dry eye is very painful, and ointments work better than drops to keep the eye from drying out.

My neutered male Twilight got a hay poke and his eye looked way worse than yours. He is fine. There's a thread on here somewhere that has pictures and chronicles his improvement.

The thread is named "Twilights Medical Thread" with NO apostrophe on "Twilights" with JX4 as the author. I don't know how to make a link to it. I couldn't locate the thread with a normal search, only through an advanced search.

Would you like me to add your pictures permanently to your thread for future readers?

The eye seems to be better to me but I am not a vet. You could also email a photo update to your vet for feedback.

Ya you can add the pics to the thread I'm gonna take him soon to the vet she wanted to see him in 7 days I'll update the situation when that happens. I called like 6 places for a quote on eye removal just so I'm prepared for the worst none want to give me a rough estimate sigh they want that doctor visit money. Hopefully it doesn't come down to that

Sort of like if I touch the corner kinda does there's def more eye movement tho I asked vet about ointment I can go pick it up but I think its that same ingredient as the eye drop and she said to use one or the other I was reading that saline solution can be used in combination with the drops so Im probably gonna pick that up for now
