My guinea pig Hyde who is 3 months old is having redness and dry skin on just his right ear. There are a couple of spots were it looks like scabs and it goes from his ear into part of his head but it is covered by fur. The inside of the ear does not have any scabbing but does appear to have patches of dry skin. I am very concerned about this, I did read that it could be a fungus but I wanted more advice on it. I would prefer to not take him to a vet as where I live is under 20 degrees right now and am fearful of him being cold. I have attached a picture of the outside of his ear. Thank you for any help!

That link doesn't work.

But you can try rubbing cold pressed virgin coconut oil into it -- it has both antifungal and antibacterial properties. Be sure to get the cold pressed kind -- heat destroys the beneficial elements.

Yes, do give the cold pressed virgin coconut oil a try.

I've found that the coconut oil usually works wonders. Occasionally I've had to use an over the counter anti-fungal cream, like Monistat or Lotrimin.
