Just got a phone call. 6 more guinea pigs, young mom and babies. One small baby PEW with maloclusion. Sounds like a lethal. They will put it down within 24 hours if no one steps up to adopt it.

The rest need homes, too. I really don´t think I can take anymore. They WILL BE EUTHANIZED in the not too distant future.

They are apparently very cute abbies.

Well, I just called one of our famous, respected, local breeders to see if she has any room at the inn. If she doesn´t, I´m going to start calling every damn breeder I can find in the area. I think that is going to be my new approach.

T, I think that is a great idea. Maybe it will make them think twice about adding to the pig population.

Are there other local rescues? Are they full? No one will blame you for not taking anymore. You are making a huge difference.

Are all the babies lethals, or just the one? Will they euthanize the others just because they can´t find homes? Don´t they keep them for awhile?

We got a fair amount of activity on the CG post: http://www.caviesgalore.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=145543&t=2546#post145543

Now I need to get transport arranged to Colorado very quickly.

Everyone´s full in our area KK. We just built two new C&C cages for the pigs at this shelter, they were ousted from their old accommodations by kittens, kittens, and more kittens. Both cages are FULL already, with no room to build more. Still they keep showing up on the doorstep.

Within the next year I want to do foster sitting for you, Teresa. I hope to get my health better and I will have both boys in school for the first time in 8 years! I really want to help. I wish I could do more now. I´m sure there will always be pigs in need. It makes me so sad/mad and every other emotion!

Well, when you are ready, that will be wonderful. Maybe when you are ready to foster, I´ll be ready to manage fosters.

You don´t have to manage me. Give me the pigs, post the pictures and let me know when someone is interested and I´ll bring them up.

I rather liked the picture of Teresa in a management position. No slaggards, for her! I´m sure she´ll expect full reports etc. etc.

I wonder if she´s one of those managers who strike fear into the souls of her minions?

Yup. That´s why I´m not in management anymore.

I foster sat for her before with no fear! I don´t want to ruin her reputation, but she is actually quite nice! LOL

Nice? NICE? What an insult!

I´ll have you know she works really hard at being rude and offensive. . . . to the thoughtless, callous types who breed their pigs and then just want to be rid of them.

Well, like I said, I didn´t want to ruin her reputation! Calling T "nice" is an understatement to say the least!

Dang I wished I lived near a rescue. Not that there seems to be any in Australia. I do have a local RSPCA nearby. Ya think I should ring and ask if they ever get Guinea Pigs dumped there??

I understand they do.

There is a rescue in Victoria.

I live in Queensland a looong way away from Victoria. Hmm once I get my cage expanded I´ll ring them. Heh I convinced my mum that one or two more pigs ould be ok.

Rosie, the RSPCAs do get pigs, but they are generally not advertised in the papers like dogs and cats are. Sadly, I strongly suspect that some shelters euthanise on arrival, so it would be worthwhile letting them know you´re "looking" to get in beforehand.

I did see one pig in the "RSPCA Pet of the Week" section of the Sunday papers, one time. I was impressed with the requirements they listed (site visit, minimum cage size etc).

For those that haven´t read the CG thread, I am taking the 6 pigs, plus some of the Monterey pigs. So far I *think* the total of pigs coming to Colorado is 26. (I keep losing count, though.)

The plan so far is to have Briana bring them as far as Wendover, Utah, where I would meet her and bring them home. For some reason I had intended on using my Jeep Wrangler thinking that would be enough room, but I don´t think it will be any more.

I decided it was time to tell my S/O what I´m up to. (I wasn´t going to mention it until after the fact.... when it was too late for him to say no! HA!) He is going to be out of town on the 5th and 6th, and said I can use his Grand Cherokee. So that solves that problem.

Unfortunately, he is NOT thrilled with the plan. He would be much more receptive if I didn´t have to drive as far (he is very over-protective of me, not to mention his Grand Cherokee, and understandably doesn´t like the thought of me alone on the road for upwards of 16 hours).

So once again, I am begging, imploring, pleading, and down on my knees praying for SOMEONE to please step up to the plate and cut this drive in half for both Briana and me. PLEASE!! There´s got to be someone that can help!

So, where is Briana and what places will she go through on her way? I think it might help if people had a better idea.
