Would your vet at least give him some oxygen and maybe Lasix?

My good thoughts are with you and Witherspoon. I hope he starts feeling better and pulls through this.

I gave him some Lasix--no change so far. Still weak, not hungry, chewing slowly. The vet said he would consider trying Enacard. But he doesn't know how to compound and dose it for a guinea pig. E?

Email Kara. She gets it compounded and there was a thread recently about it. It was on a cavyravy or a savycavy thread. I get them confused.

OK... here is Tubbit's mix:

Enalapril 20mg
7cc Oraplus
1cc Orasweet

This mixture equals 2.5 mg/ml

I give her 0.1cc by mouth one to two times a day.

Tub had it two times a day for quite a while. she is now on once a day in the evening. The compound ONLY LASTS 30 days. NO LONGER. I have seen her start to decline if I push a bottle too long.

Thank you so much. I will relay that information to my vet. The appointment is Monday, if he makes it that far.

Pigglies says his heart rate is fast and his lungs sound clear. He is sitting kind of hunched up, which you can only tell by feeling him because he has so much hair.

Wish I knew what to do for him.

Enacard is 1/8-1/4 mg SID-EOD (every 24-48 hours). A bit of a range there

Josephine posted this as the range for Enacard when Tub first started on it.

Here is Pinta's advice on Lasix:

Lasix 2-5mg/kg every 12 hours.

We usually give our heart pigs 5mg once a day. If necessary we slowly up the dose by going twice a day. It takes about a wweek to see how the lasix dose is working. Our Lasix solution is 10mg/cc, so we give 0.5cc daily. A severely heart stressed pig gets the full dose of 5mg twice a day. If in heart failure, 10mg at once. Once stabilized we back off on the Lasix dose till we arrive at a maintenance dose.

Tubbit's heart thread. Lots to read but the best of the best info we have on heart pigs is there.

I have Enacard. It's in 2.5 mg tabs and broken into quarters. I don't know if you can use this. My dog can't take it and we kept the medicine.
