There are 7 veterinarians at this hospital. The person my guinea pigs have experience with is Dr. Holub. Dr. Holub has had guinea pigs as pets since he was a kid, and during my initial appointment he took the time to go over proper care and basic info. He has been doing guinea pig neuter operations for many years, although only a handful each year. There was an option for Piglet and Pooh Bear to have laser surgery over scalpel, which was more costly but I felt safer. The gas they use to anesthetise was safe for small animals, and they did inject pain medication following the surgery. Pooh Bear got "dissolving" stitches and Pgirl got belly staples. Both healed perfectly without any complications, although the vet's office gave me advice on what to look for in case complications should occur. The hospital carries a number of products including Oxbow food and hay. Their rates are higher than some (expect to pay a $45 initial exam fee), although I don't mind because I trust Dr. Holub et al with my animals, and they have more cavy experience than other local vets I have looked into. They do take emergencies (although are not open 24/7). They have boarding facilities for dogs, cats and exotics.

TEXAS
Houston
Dr. M. Sarmiento, DVM, PhD, MS
A&M Cat Hospital
5010 Dincans St.
Houston, TX 77005
(713) 523-0528
Dr. Sarmiento is a board-certified exotics specialist and microbiologist. She treated my two pigs for viral infections. She prints out a handbook for guinea pig owners with info that has been confirmed by this forum (i.e. bedding, diet, susceptibility to URI's, etc.) In addition, the handbook informs people of the many mites in Texas and recommends annual Ivermectin shots. She also mentions the risk of reproductive cancers due to over-breeding, and suggests spaying/neutering.
She is very matter-of-fact and caring, and her assistant is also very friendly. She printed out a multi-page report after every visit detailing what she'd done. She doesn't dumb down medical information. They called to check in on the pigs after every visit.

Dr. Kenneth Dazen, VMD, Dipl.ABVP
Dr. David Kupersmith, DVM
Animal and Bird Healthcare Center & Hospital
1785 Springdale Road
Cherry Hill, NJ 08003
(856) 751-2122
These gentlemen (and there is now a third Vet who is also VERY good but I can't remember his name) have been WONDERFUL for my guinea pigs. They have an after hours number that you call and speak directly to the vet. They carry Oxbow Products, and educated me on how to take care of my guinea pig. When my Cuddles had an abcess, they were very gentle with him, and after it was lanced and drained, they gave me 2 antibiotics to make sure it would't come back and a painkiller to ease his suffering.

FLORIDA -- Pompano Beach
Wow! I just took two of my pigs to Dr. Rupp this week.
I have another vet in which to recommend. She did brilliant work on Amee's spay. Dr. Kelleher is on limited office hours since she's just had a baby (which delayed Mr. Snuggles's neuter by a month).

I apologize if this isn't the place for it, but a note about Dr. Kelleher (who I think it a great person excellent bunny vet - she is an integral part of the Miami House Rabbit Society).
When I lived in the area I took guinea pig family who had just been relinquished to me in to see her. They consisted of mom, dad, and five 3 week old babies. I told her they babies were separated by sexes as of that time, and asked her to order Cavy Permormance for me. She told me to make sure I put the baby boys back in with mom a few times a day until they were 8 weeks old because they still needed to nurse (which I did not do), and she told me they didn't need Cavy Performance, though I could feed it if Iwanted to (which I did). She also recommended that I have the sow spayed. I did have boar neutered there and she did a terrific job.
So, I think she may be thinking pigs are a little more similar to bunnies then they actually are.
Here is the website, BTW. http://www.exoticanimalcare.com/

Gloria J. Goodman, VMD
Avian and Exotic Animal Medical Center
3000 Concord Road
Aston, PA 19014
610-494-2811
Dr. Goodman has been great with our guinea pigs, and we've been seeing her for 3 years. She treats only birds, reptiles and small mammals, and we see many regular guinea pig patients there. They also offer boarding. Unfortunately, her office is not open on weekends, but sometimes phone messages will be checked by someone on staff that comes in on weekends for boarding animals. One of our pigs had a hay poke eye injury over the weekend, and after hearing our message Dr. Goodman was able to give us the appropriate antibiotics to treat her eye until our appointment. If emergencies are brought in during regular hours she sees them first.
She's very thorough with her regular exams. She knows how to check molars under anasthesia, and she also performed a neuter on our boar, and did a very good job. She's also open to answering a lot of questions from curious pig parents, and she and two of her current techs have a great bedside manner. They also carry Oxbow products.

I've been up there twice now with Sniper to have his teeth done. When I called to book the appointment I asked to speak to a vet first so I could ask questions. Dr Regan very kindly called me back and answered all my questions for me. When I went the first time I saw Dr Lane and the second time, Dr Dawson. They are both very good vets. Everyone in the office is very friendly and helpful. I searched from an exotics vet for a bit and this one was highly recommended by 3 of my local vets.

Julie Miller is their small exotic animals vet, and she is very good with them. She answers questions, and when she doesn't know something, she offers to research it for you. I have also heard great praise for the clinics' other vets from cat and dog owners. There is always someone on call.
