Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme...

Parsley and cilantro are no-brainers.

What other fresh herbs will your pigs eat? I have a ton of rosemary outside that only the bravest will taste. Most herbs are too pungent? Strong tasting? I have basil and sage in plenty right now, too.

Is it better to offer dried herbs?

As far as herbs go, fresh dill is the big winner here. Then fennel, then parsley. No one liked mint or basil.

Oh, I forgot to mention the mint. I did try that. No go. I will try the dill. Since I don't personally like it in my cooking, I don't grow or buy it.

The pigs here like annise. But they don't approve of basil. I don't get herbs a lot since they are pretty expensive though.

Pigglies, are you sure it's anise? My local grocery store sells what they call anise, but it's really fennel.

Here's anise http://www.botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/a/anise040.html

and here's fennel http://www.gardenguides.com/herbs/fennel.htm

We've bought her both, I think -- depends on if you get it at Farmer's Market or the store. It's for the pregnant sows.

My pigs like dill and basil.

I've had both. Depends where I go and if I buy it or if Chary buys it.

I have always wondered why in the heck they call fennel anise at the store?

If I remember correctly from the food channel, one is the male plant and the other is the female plant.
