MASSACHUSETTS - Worcester

Westside Animal Clinic
262 Mill Street
Worcester, MA
508-756-4411

Deb Klingenger, DVM

Fairly knowledgeable, piggie friendly vet.
I wanted them treated for mites without a skin scraping. She was hesitant and asked why. I told her that I understook skin scrapings are very painful and often inconclusive. She agreeed with me and went ahead and treated. They also got a thorough check-up, weighed, nails clipped, and Horace's bottom teeth were trimmed. All for a grand total of $45.00.
There were some things I knew that she didn't and vice versa. She seemed willing to listen and learn.

NEW YORK - MANHATTAN (UPPER WEST SIDE)

Dr. Anthony Pilny
Center for Avian and Exotic Medicine

http://www.avianandexoticvets.com/avianvets.html

Opening in December 2004, but in the meantime...

"During construction of our state of the art facility, we will be available to make housecalls or to see appointments at Animal General, 558 Columbus avenue @ 87th street. Call us at 212-501-8750 with questions or to make appointments."

I took Belle to see Dr. Pilny at Animal Medical Center New York when she had her weird eye thing going on. He was very thorough, had an excellent bedside manner. Later, when Florence was having her lymph troubles, he was willing to consult at length via email and had we been able to bring her in to see him (no small feat since we live in central NJ and I was working in midtown), he would have fitted her into his schedule. Sadly, we weren't able to do that, but he provided excellent information and advice during her illness.

CALIFORNIA -- San Diego

Dr. Todd Cecil
Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital
2317 Hotel Circle, South, Suite C
San Diego, CA 92108

Dr. Cecil performed bladder stone surgery on my piggy Oreo back in June. He saw Oreo in the early afternoon and by late afternoon that same day Oreo was having surgery as the doctor knew Oreo was in a lot of pain. Currently Dr. Cecil is working with me to figure out Oreo's soft poo problem. We may finally be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I really like Dr. Cecil - he knows a lot about piggies.

NEW JERSEY
HAINESPORT

Name: Dr. Christopher Keefe, Creeks Edge Animal Hospital
Address: 1325 Route 38
City: Hainesport, NJ 08036
Phone Number: (609) 702-9939

Personal experience: Not only is Dr. Keefe a wonderful vet in general, but he is also experienced and knowledgeable with guinea pigs. At my first visit with him, shortly after I got my boys (brought in for a well visit) he quizzed me about their cage, bedding, diet, etc. This little "pop quiz" increased the conficence I already had in Dr. Keefe (he treated past pets). Also, very kind, and always takes his time with patients/clients to answer all questions.

I know Cara already put them on the list, but I wanted to second what great vets they are. I can't say enough either. They are also great with teeth.

Here is a link to their web-site. http://www.petcarevabeach.com/

WASHINGTON
Seattle

Allpet Veterinary Clinic
(206) 365-1102
1222 NE 145th St
Seattle (Lake City), WA 98155

Dr. Barbara Deeb, DVM

Dr. Deeb is an exotics vet who works with the local guinea pig shelters and sees lots of guinea pigs. She's the one to go to for spay/neuter. She also sees rabbits, ferrets, and even prairie dogs. She's the one I would go to for any surgery and i wouldn't hesitate to make the long 1 1/2 hour drive from Tacoma (rush hour) for serious issues.

South Puget Sound area exotics vet. Sees reptiles as well as warm and fuzzies and is recommended by the Rabbit Haven shelter as well as local pet stores. I've used them for wellness checks but have not had to yet for serious issues. Rabbit Haven also recommends a few other vets on their site: http://www.rabbithaven.org/BunnyBasics/ ... errals.htm

Dr. Becky has been a wonderful vet, she helped one of my piggies through a very serious URI that lasted almost 6 months. Everything she did was consistent with the advice I had found on this website and I now take all 8 of my animals to see her. I had been looking for a good vet in Denton for a few years, prior to finding Dr. Becky I would travel about an hour away to another vet.

Although they have three Dr.'s on staff, Dr. Becky is the best when it comes to dealing with exotics.
This office allows walk-ins and always gets sick patients in on the same day. They also have a doctor on call for after hour emergencies.

FLORIDA
Stuart
(30 miles north of West Palm Beach)

Dr. Robert Katz, DVM, MS, CVA
Stuart Animal Hospital
3003 SE Federal Highway
Stuart, FL 34994

(772) 287-2242

Dr. Katz really loves treating exotics, he loves the challenge.

He perfectly neutered Randy in November.

He has treated Cervical Lymphadenitis in my male heard (4 boars). He drained Squirrely's abcesses and knew what antibiotic to give him. He treated the other 3 guys, with CL lumps, with oral antibiotics very successfully.

He is very knowledgable about cavies.

Dr. Katz is very open to all and any printed information I bring to him from Guinealynx or other sites.

I would highly recommend Dr. Katz and am very grateful that he is in our community.

Excellent Exotic's Vet. Is also an associate professor for the University of Pittsburgh, in veterinary; and is the exotic's vet for the Pittsburgh Zoo.

All 14 of my pigs see this man. He is excellent; his staff is accomodating and even though he is only in on a regular basis on Mondays and Thursdays in the evening, he has another office where he can be seen more frequently, and getting an appointment has never been a hassle. They work with you. Nice people, nice place.
