SF ACC Needs Immediate Help - Large Dump Of Gps!
This may sound like a silly question but what sort of person would leave SO many pigs at once for the SF ACC to deal with? I don't understand why they got them in the first. Has anyone tried to deal with someone like that? To understand their reasons?
Just curious.

Good question that I don't have an answer for in this case. I'm just the "messenger" helping those who are seeking homes immediately for the guinea pigs, which is the focus at this time. This may sound like a silly question but what sort of person would leave SO many pigs at once for the SF ACC to deal with? One or two may go into foster care. Also, contact will be made by the person who originated the email request to find out the actual deadline for all of the guinea pigs at SF ACC.
All will be "saved" if transport can be found to Oregon and the LA area (LA by the 14th).
BTW, thanks to all of those who are helping (both on and off the thread) to resolve the problem!

That would be easiest for me, but as I told you, rather than see them euthanized I can take all 12 if need be.
I have adopted out 15 in the last 6 weeks, so 12 would still not put me at the level I was at.
There has to be someone who can drive them part way. I can drive clear into Oregon.
If there is someone in the SF area that can come a little way into regon, it would be a 6 hour drive. We could both do this in one day.
If they are going to be euthanized, I will drive to San Fran, I guess.
What is that, about 12 hours from Seattle? Let me do some checking.

Word has been left with both the shelter contact-person and the outside contact-person: transport has been found on a private south-bound plane and we are still looking for partial or complete transport up north.
Charybdis, please contact me via email regarding the potential transport to your area. Thanks.

The LA resource is no longer available since the person took in three gps from another rescue. The person with the private plane is willing to fly to Redding, CA next weekend if needed. Also, kleenmama indicated that she could drive down the first of the year and pick them up.
However, I listened to a message on my machine about midnight and I think that the message indicated that the shelter will not release a lot of 12 gps. Their need is to place six and that is the count that they will release. Three have been approved to go to the person who fosters gps and hamsters for the SF ACC and three more have been approved for another person, apparently me, if I understood the message correctly. If I do not take them, I don't know (yet) what will happen since they need to have them removed from the shelter ASAP. I deleted the message and will need to check with the appropriate people tomorrow.
I had previously indicated that I had no room: I just took in four hamsters from Rattie Ratz, a rat rescue group, for foster/placement and will pick up the remaining one who is on medical hold this Sunday. These hamsters are from the Santa Cruz shelter: http://imageevent.com/bizylizy/rescuehamsters
I am placing the last of the two rescued males with mites this Sunday but that doesn't free up room: http://imageevent.com/bizylizy/rescues

They are overwhelmed, got 19 more in, and won't release 12? Weird! I'd have thought they would be happy to place them.
So, three then? That should be a piece of cake. I don't think I can do Redding on the 21st, but I'm still working on it.
Well, keep me posted, and I'll give you a final decision on Redding within the next day.

I don't know if they had 12 and got in an additional 19 or if they got in 19 and now only have 12 left/available. I'll call the person who left me the message later this morning (she works nights). She is the person that transported a guinea pig for me to the LA area and interacted with me on (my) recent foster/placment of 11 dwarf hamsters. With the six being released for private rescue/placement, that leaves six more who are avialable for adoption. They are overwhelmed, got 19 more in, and won't release 12? Weird! I thought there were many more CA pigs in need of homes -- and even some Holister pigs left.
It would seem if KM was going to drive down for 3, maybe a few more could be found for her area -- as it seems to not have such a glut of gps (that is, if KM is interested in a few more to place).

Kleenmama,
Would you be willing to take any of the Monterey pigs I still have in foster? Our total now is close to 50, 30 fosters and 20 permanent special needs pigs. They are in no danger of euthanasia, but our area is pretty saturated right now. I could possiblly meet you in Redding but I am completly tied up untill Christmas. The week after would be okay with me.
There has been a death in our family so I've been tied up lately.
