SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
SAN FERNANDO VALLEY

Dr. Kerry Beeder
Pet Vet
19748 Sherman Way
Canoga Park, CA 91306
Tel: 818-346-2455
Mondays/Tuesdays only

Kerry Beeder is an amazing surgeon, and is well known for his surgical skills. He performed the surgery on Spot, removing his tumor and neutering him at the same time. In spite of the fact that Spot developed pneumonia and was later found to have serious heart problems, Spot came through the surgery with flying colors.

He is extraordinarily open to new information, and very willing to listen to new ideas or discuss alternatives. While he doesn't advertise himself as an 'exotics' vet, he has worked hard to learn more about cavy medicine and treat all the animals in my rescue. He will tell you if he is unfamiliar with a protocol or procedure. He was also extremely helpful when I suggested I needed to visit a dental specialist and offered to send xrays with me.

He has recently retired and sold his practice, but he still practises on Mondays, Tuesdays, and sometimes other days. His staff are very helpful, his prices extremely reasonable, and he has a following of people with other exotic animals.

Dr. Richard Bink

I have always heard good things about Dr. Bink. I recently got a rescue GP and we went for a check up. Dr. Bink has extensive knowledge of GPs, rabbits, ferrets, and birds. He even had a monkey in the office for a visit. (please read my account in the thread 'the doctor's in')

I am impressed with Dr. Bink's knowledge and his tableside manner as a doctor. He appreciated my questions and answered them all.

I have taken my two girls here on several occasions. She successfully treated their URIs and ear infections. Her exams are thorough, eyes, nose, ears, fur, listening to lungs and bowels, checking mammary glands and sex and weighing. She helped out during the Monterey and Hollister rescues and has worked with Cavyspirit in the past. She sees many guinea pigs on a regular basis.

North East SCOTLAND
DUNDEE

TAY Veternary Centre
260 Clepington Rd, Dundee.

I've been with this practice, for many years, the staff are excellent in looking after cavies, and I can't find fault with them, reasonably priced too.

Patch has been in the wars, and his teeth are the latest problem to emerge, so he gets booked in for Xrays etc...

Ms Maharaj is Patch's primary Vet, she is brilliant and puts you at ease, answers any questions, she knows about this website and she very cavy savvy. Patch will also see Mr Connachie (The Boss) and Bill who is a large animal Vet, who amputated Patch's infected leg last year and has a wee soft spot for my wee boy too.

I've only recently become a cavy owner, so I've only been to this vet once. My young skinny boar was treated here for a URI. Very accomodating to squeeze in an appointment for an urgent problem. Also sells Oxbow products. Comes recommended by other vets in the area, as well as the employees of the local pet supply shop I shop at. Also treat other small animals, as well as reptiles.

Dr. Lauren Powers
Carolina Veterinary Specialist
Specialty and Emergency Hospital
12117 Statesville Road
Huntersville, NC
Phone: 704-949-1100
located just north of Charlotte, North Carolina -off I-77

The regular hours for the specialty clinic are Monday-Friday 7:30AM-6:30PM but they Animal Trauma and emergency stays open 24 hrs 365 days.

Dr. Powers is great. She is the exotic specialist for this facility and takes exotics as regular patients. When my piggies went in for their check up she was very thorough and even followed up to make sure they were maintaining their weight. Recently my two boys, Piggie and Cappuccino got into a tiff on a Sunday afternoon. They wound up with some nasty bites wounds. Cappy needed stiches on his lower eye lid and Piggy needed to have the wound on his rump check out. Dr. Powers was not working that Sunday but her staff called her. She came in straight away and took care of them.

ALBERTA, CANADA
Calgary - Central/SW

Dr. Leticia Materi
Calgary Avian & Exotic Pet Clinic
3118 - 17 Avenue S.W.
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
T3E OB2

Tel: 403-240-3577
Fax: 403-249-8160
http://www.calgarypetvet.com

Dr. Materi is kind, caring, and extremely skilled. She is extremely thorough, is very knowledgeable, and brings an excellent "bedside manner" to the room. She is impressively competent in handling a fussy guinea pig through dental exams (she does not use anesthetic for trimmings), anal temperatures, ear cleanings, etc. Her staff is excellent, as well, and the clinic is well-run, efficient, and on-time.

_____________________________

Dr. Lynne Ford
Animal Care Emergency
1635 - 17 Ave SW
Calgary, Alberta
PHONE: (403)770-6388

Dr. Ford is very kind and competent. This clinic is EMERGENCY ONLY and cannot be used for regular vet care or for more intensive procedures. I would only recommend Dr. Ford for guinea pig care- this clinic treats all animals and I'm personally not familiar with the other doctors' competency with guinea pigs. However, Dr. Ford was excellent when we required emergency care. She provided a thorough exam, a diagnosis, first-doses of medication and fluids, and she sent us home with plenty of antibiotics, painkillers, and critical care to last us until we were able to see a regular vet. Her services were extremely appreciated in a time of need.

MASSACHUSETTES [ MA ]
North Adams (Close to Bennington, VT)

Dr. Michelle Gorbutt (Exotics Surgeon/Vet)

Greylock Animal Hospital
1028 State Road
North Adams, MA 01247
(413)663-5365

*Hospital Specialises in Exotics and Regular Animals
*Very knowlegable exotics vet that has dealt with many Guinea Pigs.
*They are very knowlegable in the allergies & medications in cavys.
*Only downfall: Sometimes overpriced

Castration (Neuter) Costs around $44 assuming there are no complications. Quick surgery, In and Out and they provide excellent recovery care and support over the phone. Doctors are on call 24/7. Rather good price for this surgery.

Do not bring your cavy to the Animal E.R. Of The Berkshires (pittsfield, MA) if recomended to. They are not affiliated with Greylock and have been known to provide medications that are lethal to cavys!

Mountain View, CALIFORNIA

Dr. Kenton Taylor
Miramonte Veterinary Hospital
1766 Miramonte Avenue
Mountaing View, California

650-962-8338

Dr. Taylor is the most knowledgeable vet I’ve seen in a long time, and I’ve worked with some with good reputations. What distinguishes him from other vets I’ve seen, is that Dr. Taylor keeps thinking about your pets problem even when he is not in the room with you. I see evidence of this when his techs call up to check on my pig (with great regularity) and tell me that Dr. Taylor thinks we may need to try one more thing, or Dr. Taylor has talked to a specialist in Canada. Plus his knowledge seems encyclopedic off the cuff. My original vet could not explain an unusual situation with one pig (it wasn’t life altering so we didn’t pursue investigation), but I chatted with Dr. Taylor, who has never seen the pig, and he had at least a guess as to what might have caused the unusual situation. He also spent a good deal of time with me on my first two visits.
