theory on chirping

Huh... funny.
Mine never chirp before or after fights, they only chirp at night or just waking up...?

It's weird that the woman even brought it up at all. She just happened to mention it out of the blue, and I was thinking of this thread when she said it. Mine have never ever made that sound that I am aware of. I heard the tape. It is definitely unusual. Well, maybe we will never know for sure.
Spaz was definitely not fighting when she was chirping. She was pancaking in the corner, then hopped up and went into her blank stare and started chirping.

Polly has never been fighting when she chirps. She actually has never had a fight, thank heavens, but she does the stare/trance thing. I'm going to ask Dr. R. if he is familiar with it and his experience. It's interesting that some do it and others don't. Another Guinea Pig mystery of life!
Butters chirped last night, right after a green pepper munching. When he chirps, he looks frightened and runs around like something is hunting him. I held him after he was done and he was shivering. His eyes wide with fear. He eventually calmed down, but I hate seeing him like that.
Thelma, on the other hand, chirps only when she's had so much veggies she's going to explode, cage is clean, and all her hay, water, and pellets are freshly filled. When she's done, she puffs up like a Tribble and goes to sleep.

That is what "Baby" did a few months ago. She had stuffed herself with veggies and then laid down and kind of fluffed up and pancaked out and started chirping while I was standing right there. She didn't seem in distress at all. She looked quite content, and kind of in a trance. She kept doing it for a few minutes while I watched her. Normally she doesn't like me to look at her because she is a nervous pig, but she was looking right at me while she was doing it.

I have 12 pigs in one 4x8.5 c and c cage and one of them chirps. I can't see how it would be loneliness though because the probably chirper has friends from birth in the cage with her.
S&J, that sounds like a sweet cage. It's on the floor isn't it? Do you just walk in and clean?
Hi! this is my first post, but I just wanted to let you know that one of my babies was chirping a few minutes ago! I'm so happy!
Right now there are five in my family: 3 females (mamá-Wanda, almost 4 years old; Choco, her baby, 1 year and 1 month; Mochín, 1 year and 1 month too) and 2 males (Cosina, 1 year and 3 months; Hastur, 1 year). I had heard some piggies chirping on net, but this was really really amazing. My mother and me were watching tv, and suddenly we heard a noise in my room. One of them was chirping! We listened about 3 minutes, and then, I opened the door slowly. It stopped when I turned the light on.
I can't explain. They have food, water, toys, hay...and their cages are big (open cages, near 2 x 2 metres for the girls and same for the boys). It's cold, but they have a blanket and cozys; I cleaned the cages every day, so it wasn't dirty, and the room was quiet. I can't find any reason; no hungry, no thirsty, no cold, no fear, no lonliness...
We have some parakeets too, but their sound is very different, so... a sweet mystery! I just wanted to tell... (sorry for my poor English)

My grey and white Coronet (recent adoptee), Duster just chirped yesterday evening. He kept it up for about 5 minutes or so. It was so weird, the timing and all. I had just stumbled upon this thread a few days prior!! I had never heard a guinea pig chirp before (mine or anyone else's) and here on of my new ones does it. It is an unusual noise. If only they could tell us why they do it!
