I think it matters more if it's cold pressed if you're going to eat it.

Definitely don't plan in eating it. Blech! I'll wait for BL to come home and weigh in before I open it. I also emailed the manufacturer to ask.

Actually, it needs to be cold pressed if you plan on using it for antifungal, antibacterial or antiviral purposes. The heating process ruins all the beneficial things in it.

I do not know the answer that if it is virgin or extra virgin (what?) does that mean it IS cold pressed or not.

Just remember the heating ruins the helpfulness. I am trying an experiment to see if it kills off my plantar wart virus!!

Ah - very good point (why didn't I think of that?)

I thought that was what you had said BL. I'll just have to wait and see if the company emails me back. I live in a really "granola" neighborhood but still only one health food store had any. The other had some for cooking but I knew that wouldn't be pure enough.

When I go to give ivermectin to the high school pigs, there's another really huge health food store out there I can try and there's always the one you found (but it's a LONG way out).

Just thought I'd mention, I found the coconut oil in the smallest little health food store possible. It's like the siz eo fmy livingroom, and half the store is birkenstocks! Oh and it was definitely being sold as a food product. It actually came with some recipes, including one for oatmeal cookies that needs a cup of the stuff. I bet they taste coconutty...

Oh and I just found there's an expiry sticker on the box! So I'm good until November 2008.

Rshevin, if you can't find the good stuff, I can mail you a scoop of it. Well, as long as I can find some sort of container to put it in. After all, I do have a whole pound of the stuff.

Brandilyn - Let me know how it works on the plantar wart. My daughter suffered from those for months and ended up having surgery on her feet for 14 of them. Can you imagine!

When we started with the foot doctor, I think she only had 3 or 4. They spread like wild fire. So be careful. We started with the duct tape treatment that a skin "specialist" told us to use. Then we used a special acid concoction that the podiatrist recommended. Then they used the spray that freezes them and scraped them with a razor... then the big old knife. Not a good experience especially for a little kid.

Fairy, thanks for the advice. The kind of coconut oil that the first store had in the cooking section said neither extra virgin nor cold pressed. At least the second store's stuff says extra virgin. Here's a description to what I have. http://www.sourcenaturals.com/products/GP1841/ It's still sealed in the package and I have the receipt if I decide to return it.

You are SO sweet to offer me some! I'm confident I can find it here with a little more driving around. LandosMama lives near me and found some. I'm just too lazy to drive out to the store where she bought it.

If you keep it in the fridge, I'll bet you're good long past even Nov of 2008. I'm good until May 2009. :-P

My instructions were similar to yours except they include they humorous line that you can "spread on toast instead of butter or margerine." Yuck!

It really is good on toast. Its coconutty!! Not sweet though. If you salted it, it would be more like salted butter.
