Hello Everyone,
I am VERY new to Cavy's as in only a week or so and i have noticed that my cavy tends to sleep on her back. At the moment she is by herself but i am planning on getting her a female friend.
I wanted to know if this was normal and if anyone had any general tips for me being a brand new person to cavy's. Other than this very useful website : )
Thanks!

| You mean on her side or really on her back? If it's the last case, I really want to see a picture :D

Elvis likes to roll like horses on his back sometimes when he sleeps. I told this to my husband and he didn't believe me until another piggie owner told the same.
It's so hilarious to watch!

| I've seen piggies lying on their backs when they are being held. In photos. I've never had a pig that did it.

Tigger used to fall asleep on his back, when he was being held. He didn't do it by himself until he got really sick and had his strokes.
Is this pig otherwise healthy?

| I would love to have a piggy that would lie on it's back, but none of mine will have it! Oh I swear, they are just the most rotten piggies, always getting their way.

| At least they don't start scrambling out of the cage as soon as you open it and chewing anything which comes within reach. Of course, that's an assumption.

She was actually sleeping on her back. As in four legs in the air. It was cute. She appears to be healthy and is eating fine. I'll try get a photo but she doesnt like the camera very much : ) When she lays down with my partner she cuddles right into his side rolls over and goes to sleep. We dont hold her or anything
My cage is fairly big. Couldnt give you the exact measurements but i have been told i could keep atleast three pigs in their comfortably.

| In general chat I read bunnies sleep on their sides. Is true of all of them? Do piggies do this?

I like my Einstein's favorite sleep pose - he goes in the shed, turns around, sticks his front feet wayyyy out the door (they look all wrong, those tiny feets with the leonine texel head) and then puts his head down on his front legs like a dog.
Hoove has never done that. He sleeps in a curve with the sexy leg.
Neither one cares to be on his back, ever. I wish they would, though.

| Ok, if I had a rabbit, it would be completly sleep deprived. If I found it sleeping like that, I would have to constantly poke it!
