Brandilynn Spankin's, anyone?
 Who's your Branni?

This very nice Lazarus pig came from a shelter in Alabama.
He came with a crusty eye and they said he was not eating. He was on doxycycline and some eye ointment.
I had noticed before we went to Dr. Ahearn that his ear was full of funk (on the same side as his eye) and that his face seemed to be a bit flaccid on the same side as his crusty pirate eye.
His palsied smile

Gooby pirate eye, soon to be crusty pirate eye. Ps the pus comes back right after you clean it out. amazing refill.

His incisors are both angled and the way he could not tear into a baby carrot I figure we have some teeth stuff (or maybe they just hurt because he had an ear infection) Ear infection proposed by Talishan and she was correct.
We went to see Dr Ahearn yesterday and she says his eye looks like there is a scar on it, that there was not roaring ear infection, but definitely a mild one, and with his teeth and his lack of response when she taps on his eye corner and his teeth that probably he had some sort of trauma to that side of his face.
So, he is on sulfa tri meth which he thinks is YUMMY and I do not give him enough of, neomycin/polymycin for his eye and next week we are going to go back and see if a tooth trimmin is in order, although I suspect the answer is yes, by the way he acts like things might get a little caught on the back palsied side.. or maybe that is just the way it is.
Aside from that, he is a young fellow who is pooping fine, drinking fine, eating hay all the time, likes to eat, will fall asleep right where he is like a tiny narcoleptic. Does not need to hide under anything. His face just falls forward and he is fast asleep.
Anyway.. any thoughts shared and what not will all be appreciated!

branni, that's how the little Moku-boy sleeps. He rarely goes into a pigloo or play towel and curls up like a little "c" out in the open (but always with a sexy piggy leg). I wonder if that behaviour is related to the vision probs? I'm sure the very lovely and talented Dr. Ahearn checked his other eye - everything okay with that one?
Hope everything progresses nicely for that sweet little boy. If you can find a clean spot, give him a kiss from Auntie Cheryl!

Sounds like he has some real problems to overcome. Hope he can regain some use of the other side of his face. It's possible a chinsling might help if the muscles aren't being used properly on one side.
Good luck to you.

Yea.. new rule is no fosters can pass through my hands ever.
Cheryl - does Moku have jerky jumpy sleep stuff? Laz in a sleep jump, boinged straight out of my lap -- and boinged way up high too!
I have not ever seen a pig with the Jimmy Legs so bad!
We shall see what a good course of antibiotics do to his funky eye and ear.
Piggie Parent and Talishan are the real piggie heros!

| Branni - for about a month or so after we got Moku, he would have jumpy sleep. Like you said - from sound asleep to wide awake in a nanosecond. He'd be kind of confused and always bang his head into the sipper on the water bottle. It was pitiful. He doesn't do it very much at all now. Hopefully it has something to do with him feeling more comfortable and safe.

He is doing okiedoke.. weighs the same as when I left, 1 pound 9 ounces but is doing great eating when he is awake. His ears are much cleaner. Jenny said she thinks the bad one drained one day. He still sleeps quite a bit, but so do my other boys.. so.. who can know if that actually means anything. I think he stays awake for a bit more each time!
I am going to make us a date with Dr. ahern on Saturday or maybe Thursday, so she can check out his toofer situation. I think he definitely does not feel much on the bad side of his mouth, since he will have a bit of foodies hanging out over there and be snuffling about for more!
His eye still gets funky - I wonder if its actually all pus or if its "window washer fluid" you know.. eye washing stuff? the way it comes back so fast after I clean out his eye makes me wonder that.
Arrr cheryl.. you are my poxy lasss!!!

I was wondering if it was washing goo, too.
Is the eye properly lubricated on its own, goo aside? Sometimes after a trauma, they can't keep the eye moist and need ointment.

| I do not really know the answer to that RS. Its goobed up right after cleaning out immediately and the goo turns matty. Dr A said that probably because of his lack of reaction when she taps his eye corner that probably he will need added eye lube, but I honestly do not know the answer. Right now I am lubing it up with the antibiotic stuff, but - color me clueless.

When Max had eye problems (vet said maybe he'd had a seizure. He couldn't blink properly), she told me to buy nighttime eye lubricating gel (not drops) from the drug store. Same stuff people use. Hard to find, and expensive (something like $11 for a very small tube), but it might save his eye.
At any rate, to me it looks more like washing goo than the gunk Jules gets with conjunctivitis.
