Is this a bad year, or what???

The Fairfax County Animal Shelter in Fairfax, Virginia has adorable piggies, and unfortunately, a number of them are older (but soo sweet). They can't handle them all, and is so sad to see them all there and about to lose their lives because some idiots decided they couldn't deal anymore with their pets.

Please don't BUY a guinea pig! This shelter will adopt to you if you simply show up, and it doesn't matter where you are located...

Judi - Any chance you are coming down to New Orleans any time soon? I have a home opening up for 2 sows, preferably older (even elderly) sows.

A friend of mine is going to be getting back into her home this month and wants to adopt 2 sows. I'm sure I could find a couple locally but we are not having the overpopulation problem you are having and I know you come down here sometimes.

My friend will be building a C&C cage, feeding Oxbow (we will be joint ordering) and I am at her place all the time so I will be checking on them, trimming nails, etc..

If you take the time to use proper captalization and punctuation, it makes posts so much more readable.
Thanks!

Thank you, Got pigs! We just got an emergency email that they are going to euthanize. They have 23 piggies today.

And another shelter nearby has 12..

In the old days, I would have taken 20... :-(

I really wish I can adopt [url=http://www.petharbor.com/detail.asp?ID=A010623&LOCATION=FRFX&searchtype=ADOPT&friends=0&samaritans=0&nosuccess=0&rows=10&imght=120&imgres=thumb&view=sysadm.v_ftwy&bgcolor=333366&text=FFFFFF&link=FFFFFF&alink=FFFFFF&vlink=FFFFFF&fontface=arial&fontsize=10&col_hdr_bg=FFCC00&col_bg=FFFFFF&col_fg=333366&SBG=333366&zip=22030&miles=10&shelterlist='FRFX'&where=type_OO]Bandit[/url], she looks just like my Starbuck (RIP). But I don't think they will adopt to me without too much hooha. =( I'm in an apt and we have a limit of 2 pets. *sigh* Anyone want to work with me to adopt her?? I can give references that I take very good care of my piggies.

As far as I know, FFX doesn't really care about that kind of thing, Pigsterz. They don't do checks.

That piggy is so adorable. She is bound to be euthanized due to her age, too. :-(( I have a feeling that she is part of a pair or trio, though.

Sorry guys, no piggie today. She didn't quite look like Starbuck. But I'm still considering her because I feel so bad that she's there and she's quite old.

I'm very concerned that she is in the same cage as Rusty, a male!?! Yikes!

I ran into Rebecca while she was springing some lovely young ladies from there. =)

Oh, it was you who Rebecca talked to. :-) She is our volunteer for that shelter. She only took three - we don't have the space.

I feel so bad for the old ones. Maybe with the added space they won't euthanize, but apparently they got in 3 more between yesterday and today. :-(

That piggy may be spayed or her mate may be neutered.

I am looking to adopt one or two guinea pigs. Do you still have some available, if so is there any way to send me pics of them? I have two females that I have had for 3 months. The more I read about guinea pigs the more I see how they are neglected and I want to know I am helping some how. I actually adopted my girls from a lady who was allergic to them. I had already done research on guinea pigs because my husband is allergic to cats and dogs and I was looking for a pet for my 3 yr. old daughter. Of course, I do all of the care, she is just there to give them extra love! I don't care about the age, I want one that would be good with my other two and also children.

kristinaford,

This is the link that JudiL posted. Look here and you can see guinea pigs from this shelter.

Another good place to look is www.petfinder.com!

Good luck on wanting more piggies. They sure are fun aren't they?

I wish the senior were in Texas. For the last few months, the calls I've been getting are because people have been wanting seniors as company for existing lone seniors. I really enjoy the older ones too.

JudiL, Do you have more than what is showing up on your website? When I look I only see 8. I just looked and saw Petunia, she is new since I last looked, but won't be good for me, cause I have a 3 yr. old.
